Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

Had a run of 3 Firefly games this weekend with the new Jetwash ship in play. Had some great games and each one played quite a bit differently by changing set-ups and mission cards every time. The wrong card at the wrong time can sink you so quickly and out of the blue in that game but it's still so much fun to play out.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

Played Airlines Europe today. Kind of a stock market type game in that you pay to put 1 or 2 airplanes of various colors on the board in a flight path between cities, but can't put the same color in the same route. There are like 9 colors of planes and each color has a corresponding stock cards of different amounts, like maybe 6 orange and 11 black etc.

Corresponding colored scoring pieces start off on a track in various starting points near the beginning. Each space a plane is placed in a flight path cost a certain amount of money for you to put it there, and that color scoring piece moves up on the track spaces equal to the cost you paid to put the plane/s in play. So buying/placing planes is one action, and there is a bank of 5 face up stock cards similar to Ticket To Ride. After you place your plane/s, you take one of the face up stock cards or the top of the deck. Another action is to play stock cards in front of you to get $2 for each card played. This gets you some income, as well as shows what stocks/colors you are wanting to do well. Another action is to discard 2 or 3 cards to get some special card/s that score separate than the stocks. Last action you can take is to simply take $8 from the bank.

Along the scoring track are vp brackets that align with the scoring spaces next to it. There are scoring cards that are put into the stock card deck, 15th, 30th and one in the bottom 11 cards. Whenever this card comes up, you score colored stocks based on where their scoring marker is on the track. Then you see who has the most of that color and they get the highest VP's from that section, 2nd place gets next amount etc. Ties are figured out by adding numbers and dividing, rounding down.

Anyway, the strategies are to try to get others to help boost the value of stocks you have a majority of, so you will get the most vp's. You also want to try to forecast the value of certain colors and try to gain stock cards to play of the better performing colors, while not helping the stocks of colors where other players have majorities.

Cool game.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

Played Sentinels, Among the Stars and Red Dragon Inn yesterday.

This week I got a lot of Twin Shadows painted.

Saska is a pretty cool looking model. I am excited to see how she plays.

The Tuskens were deceivingly complex. Lots of little metal bits and several layers of cloth in varying browns with a little skin poking through.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

Anyone play the new version of Star Wars Risk yet? I hear it's actually a phenomenal game with rules inspired by the old Queen's Gambit game. (So it doesn't actually play anything like Risk!)

I'm considering picking it up, but there's two versions, the retail copy which is $25, and the collectors "Black Edition," which is much nicer quality and extra minis, but it's only available online and it's $50.

Brief comparison between the two versions:

Don't think of it as being outnumbered. Think of it as having a wide shot selection!

Yeah I saw that. I'm a sucker for "nicer" versions, but deciding whether or not it's worth literally twice as much.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

Tonight I played:

Coloretto - 5 players. Nice light set collecting card game. I came in 2nd with 27 points, where 1st place squeaked by with 28 points.

Feudality - 5 players. This is a neat game that I haven't played in a couple years, but a friend brought it to game night and we gave it a go. Each player has a player mat that is 7 spaces across and 7 spaces down, for 49 spaces. Basically, you start out with some resources (gold, food, wood, coal, iron) and a couple tiles that may give you resources or VP's or something else. Beginning of each turn, the active player will roll 2 d8's, 1 blue and 1 white. Then you place your player marker on the corresponding space on your mat, and you can activate the tile it lands on, or an adjacent tile, including diagonals. The an event card is drawn, and that could be the king demanding taxes, or declaring war, or bandits, etc. Basically these events will affect everyone, and they have an opportunity to do what is required to not lose a VP, do what it says to gain a VP or other. Then 10 tiles are drawn out of the bag and players can buy them to add to their barony. Lots of neat tiles that offer various things. Then you can take a couple actions, like produce from tiles you have, attempt a to hook up with the queen, attack another player etc. Then you have to feed your people.

Fun game. It lasts until someone gets to 13 VP's and can't be affected by someone else that would lower their VP's. I won on my turn with 13 VP's, with one player at 9 VP's, 2 at 5 VP's and 1 at 2 VP's.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

Man I was just watching that Star Wars Risk collectors Edition video wondering if I should get it, now I'm more interested in finding out if that game you just posted is any good. Those Death Star minis might be the bane of me.

I'm pretty sure the reason it is literally twice as much is because it is an Amazon exclusive, so they have no competitive incentive to discount it.
