That pair is awful... They're a huge pain. I summoned someone my first time. There are also a few alternatives. I don't want to spoil anything as discovery is the best part of that game, but if you ever want help, feel free to PM me.
I actually got really, really good against both of them and got the second one down to 1/4 health before getting one shotted. After several hours though, I realized they were legitimately threatening my willingness to beat the game, and wound up summoning help as well. I'd actually tried that a couple times far sooner, but my helper kept dying, even when I kept Smough busy, and I wasn't yet good enough to take advantage of the edge they'd given me.

Re: What Video Game are you Currently Playing?

Today I finished Arkham Asylum (yes Asylum, not City). It is a pretty good game, though I don't love it as much as most do.

Then I played some of the Space Marine demo. Wasn't a huge fan, though I wanted to like it. I really prefer third person shooters to first person, so I wanted to get into this, but found it too clunky. I may have to give Gears of War a shot instead.

Re: What Video Game are you Currently Playing?

I have a pretty great Skyrim story to tell. I found a dragon circling a small mountainside, so I run up to fight it. It was a simple battle, but I noticed it was attacking something other than Lydia and I. Also, we were by a forest. I figured it was attacking a deer or something. Well, I managed to kill the dragon quickly. Once it slumped and started deteriorating, a friggin' bear comes out of nowhere! And I had only about half health with little time to respond. It plows me over, and I die! So I had to kill that dragon again. I did a facepalm on that one.

My tourney record: 14-32 or 30.43% wins

Having played both Space Marine and Gears, you'll find Gears is a far superior game. The controls feel a bit more fluid, but also the game uses a cover system whereas Space marine does not, which is difficult to get used to if you've played Gears first. I just remember in Space Marine, every time I encountered a battle I instinctively wanted to stack up behind cover and couldn't.

----------------------------------------------------

On a side note, I've been playing the Battlefield 3 co-op missions with my brother. We've completed them, but now we're trying to complete the achievements for them. We're not achievement whores, but whenever there are plausible achievements to unlock in a game, we like going for them as it adds replay value to a game.

So we're missing one achievement for a mission in which you are a pair of snipers and you have to meet up with alpha team to then escort them safely to a location in which hostages are being held. The achievement is to complete the mission without ever alerting the enemy of your presence. We always can make it toward the end, but then one of us will goof on a head shot, alerting the enemy. Its driving us crazy... I think we have a few more tries left in us before we abandon this task.

Re: What Video Game are you Currently Playing?

Thanks for the advice. At this point, would you say it is worthwhile to start Gears of War from the beginning? Or should I jump right into the most recent release?

You really should start from the beginning because each game is an ongoing continuation that picks up more or less where you left off in regard to the overall story. I think you'd be a bit clueless or at least confused if you dove right into GoW3.

To your benefit though, with the age of the games, they sell a combo pack of Gears 1 and 2 with all the DLC for a fair price. So picking that up would be worthwhile.

Re: What Video Game are you Currently Playing?

IDK, Gears 1 isn't nearly as good as Gears 2. I don't think the story is so terribly important that you wouldn't get the general idea of what's going on skipping the first. The first game was great for its time, but its overloaded with half baked ideas and frustratingly dumb mechanics.

I really liked Space Marine myself. There's no cover system, but its not a game that plays with a cover system in mind. It's a far more aggressive game, where you're expected to thin hordes of enemies with firearms until they get close enough to switch to melee. I wouldn't say its the better game, but its an awful lot of fun too.

Yeah. The Crystal ring Shield will wreck both of them. The trick is
Spoiler Alert!
That is honestly the hardest fight in the game because no other fight requires that much battlefield management.

I think its still worth experiencing Gears 1 despite some annoying parts in the game. Plus, with the combo pack being so cheap, why not pick it up?

Regarding WH 40k: SM, I think its a good game and I'm aware its not meant to have a cover system given the chaos of the swarming orcs. It just feels like you want to hide during a firefight. Most cases, I back-pedaled instead.

Yeah. I suppose the combo pack makes it worth it. I just remember Gears 1 as being a game where about half of it was really, really, really awesome, while the other half made me never want to play it again. Compared to Gears 2, which is one of my favorite games of this generation, and I have a hard time recommending the first.

Backpedaling in Space Marine isn't a bad idea at times if you're getting overrun, but the game definitely rewards you for switching to melee to finish the job. It's all about learning the right rhythm for mixing in executions to keep your health up. There's a lot of tricks in the game that really reward playing aggressively. I'm particularly fond of using the shoulder tackle, then grabbing the enemy out of the air for an easy execution. I probably enjoyed it more than most because its far less of a shooter than its crosshairs would imply.

Re: What Video Game are you Currently Playing?

Gears 2 has a better horde mode than Gears 3. Gears 3 improved horde mode, and then ruined it with nearly impossible to kill bosses every 10 waves.

Re: What Video Game are you Currently Playing?

Anyone play Gratuitous Space Battles? I just saw some videos of the game on youtube and it looks pretty awesome. A chance to play out giant space battles. Looks pretty cool although I've never really heard about it before.
