Christmas Gift cards: DON'T DO THEM!

My dad told me yesterday of a scam involving gift cards. Not sure if anyone has heard about this yet, so i will post it.

There are people going around writing pin-numbers of off gift cards while they are in th store. The will then go home and get online to check the balance of those pin-numbers. When they find one that has been activated, they proceed to use the pin-number to do some online shopping.





Don't do gift cards for christmas this year. It could be used before you gift it!

Wouldn't the theives need the pin # that the purchaser sets up?

Would make sense, but there are proly ways to get around that. I dunno, thanks for the heads up.

They've been doing this scam and others with gift cards for years. It's nothing new.


If you think about it, a gift card is the suckiest gift out there. It's basicly giving cash, except you're limited as to where you can use it. Really, it's better to just give cash since it can be spent anywhere.

The only gift cards I plan on buying this year are from Hollister for my 14 yr old daughter in NY and my 14 yr old niece. I don't dare attempt to buy them clothes anymore, because I'm bound to screw it up. Anyway, certain stores (and restuarants) keep the gift cards behind the counter and aren't accessible to theives.
