Sounds like they're all exposure based, though, which would mean Mutations maybe? Unless Mutate is an actual term in 2000 AD, seems like they should be their own thing, and Mutation seems to describe them.

If I inferred something incorrectly from your post this my apologies but I read it as you weren't pushing for her to be a Mutant.

As to Johnny...getting mutated in the womb is not the same as biologically being born a certain way...fetal alcohol syndrome doesn't happen without an external influence.

For the record I have read some of Red but it's been ages...I went through a phase of fascination with female vampires and half vampire warriors...though I don't remember the how of her existence.

I just wish people would trust me on 2000AD. It feels like I have to go through this a lot when it is not needed. People debated whether Nemesis should have the race of Warlock.

Point is there have been other comics that have used Mutants in their universe that we didn't transfer straight over...and with a figure that has other options such as Durham Red...

Besides picking one item in my multiple posts to marginalize the points is kind of unfair. Especially since you specifically stated the following in your argument here...

Either you care what they are called in universe or you don't...

The TMNT are also called Turtles in universe, arguably more often... either would have been justified, but I'd argue Turtles was more iconic.


In general, my preference here would be:


Mutants: It's what they're known as in universe, feels fitting and would I think be more interesting mechanically

Mutations: It fits well enough for me not to be against it
Mutates: It's not a generally recognised term as a noun and therefore, IMO, should never be used unless used in-universe (as a matter of fact, when I first saw Green Goblin I thought Mutate was a typo - that's how weird the term is to me without in-universe justification)


I'm fine with Mutation here, and I think that's what I'd suggest at least as a catch-all for 'mutated but without a specific clear term for it' in future, very much over Mutate (i.e. I reckon I'd be in favour of Bebop and Rocksteady being Mutations).

I'm happy to take your word, I was just concerned since it seemed clear from what you said that they were Mutants and Mutate was a compromise that felt unthematic and unnecessary (and I still think Mutate at least would be).
And yeah, the discussion on whether Nemesis's species should be Warlock was stupid.

Sorry for the unclear nature nature of my posts. I was on my phone and burned out.

I get frustrated with my designs because unlike most every other design where the discussions are about powers and mechanics, my designs turn into debates about theme and I get little feedback on the actual design which is what I need help with.
