Re: Pirate Set?

As a small expansion I think pirates would be a great addition to the classic 'scape family. I would definately buy them.

As a large expansion it has some potential as long it doesn't get too far out there in size and scope. The Palm tree's and sand terrain already exist so adding those would be easy. A pirate ship is probably out of the question due to the large size. Some shipwreck ruins, along the lines of the building ruins from RotV, would be more practical. These pirate ship ruins would give the scene the look of a shipwreck, provide some cover from LOS and would be easy to position on the map. A Davy Jones locker glyph that does something bad to the unlucky figure that steps on it would be a neat similarly themed item to add some interest to the pirate scenario. It would also have to have a treasure chest and a Giant Squid.

Re: Pirate Set?

Just found the post (yay)!

I heard the idea and liked it, and on top of that, since finding "good" pirates is somewhat difficult, there can just as easily be imperial soldiers/admirals. You know, the spiffy-dressed soldiers similar to the 4th/10th, except they are better suited for water combat (maybe a slither mechanic for the series would work).

These guys would have to have melee/ranged blends and water boosts, as well as synergy centered on a give/take relationship with the bonding hero. I could also give the pirates a marro plague-like ability, perhaps scurvy or something of the sort.

Lastly, a pirate uncommon hero thought, an oar master with a whip attack and movement boost to pirate squad figures.

Just a few ideas.

Sometimes, you just have to start over.

Re: Pirate Set?

I don't see why a Pirate Ship would be any more out of the question than, say, I don't know, a castle? If they built the right modular pieces, you could build a large or a small boat depending on how many sets you buy. I'm not sure about a large boat steering in water, but I don't see why you couldn't have sciffs as destructible objects included in the thing. Personally, I like the idea of having pirate ship ruins on land...

Re: Pirate Set?

As for pack structure:

Pirate pack
3 man pirate squad (c)
Pirate Oar Master (uc)
Elite pirate hero? (c)

Imperial pack
3 or 4 man imperial squad (c)
Imperial lookout hero (c)
Additional hero? (uc)

Scourge of the seas
3 man ghost squad (c)
3 man sea demon squad (c)

Hero pack
Admiral (U)
Ghost Captain (U)
Pirate Captain (U)
Large figure? (squid oldschoolscaper?) (U)
maybe additional hero

Sometimes, you just have to start over.

Re: Pirate Set?

Maybe, in the packs, there could be deep water tiles, of a darker shade of blue, which could be impassible to figures that cannot swim/fly (ie slither, amphibious, etc.) where figures could be forced to roll to survive, like lava but with better odds. Not to sure there.

Sometimes, you just have to start over.

Re: Pirate Set?

How about whirlpool tiles? That way you could get around making swimming such a rare talent. Maybe a whirlpool tile could affect regular water tiles around it?

I like the idea, but it sounds like something that could work like a Mika Connour ability for either the ghost captain or a sea monster.

If it doesn't use 20+ sets, you're not doing it right!
