Re: This is how Avalon Hill Heroscape succeeds

Never mind Avalon Hill was an established company before Wizards of the Coast was founded.

That was a long time ago and before they were bought by Hasbro. Now they're just using the name and diverting company resources away from development.

Same with Mercury, they were a real company back in the '50s. But for the last 20+ years of the company's life they were just re-stickered, more expensive Fords. And that brand died for a good reason.

Re: This is how Avalon Hill Heroscape succeeds

I'm with Hogg.

Nothing against the current employees of Avalon Hill, but the imprint name has practically no connection to the classic company and its glorious history (most important wargame company in the world for decades). It is kind of like the bait-and-switch ownership of former USA brands except that as far I know Hasborg isn't owned overseas. (wouldn't be surprised if I'm wrong).

Examples: everything that Nestle and Unilever own (it boggles the mind), 7-Eleven, Volvo, GE appliances, Hoover vacuums, Honeywell electronics, Motorola, Waldorf Astoria, Smithfield foods, Club Med, ... (it goes on and on... but I digress!!)

Re: This is how Avalon Hill Heroscape succeeds

But does WotC make board games? Or just MtG and DnD?

Re: This is how Avalon Hill Heroscape succeeds

WotC and Avalon Hill don't really make anything, its all Hasbro. And if they insist on having different "brand departments" or whatever they have evolved into now, why not have all tabletop gaming in the same one. Board games vs RPG/TCG is a weird distinction to make anyway.

Its especially confusing now that AH is developing a DnD board game.
