Re: The Book of Thunderball - Design Phase
That's fine and I can certainly roll with the suggested change, I was just trying to come up with something different that people didn't think was boring Though reaching up to hit something 8 levels high isn't quite the same as a normal adjacency attack for a 5 height figure.
I'm fine making the change, but when I get to Wrecker, I don't want to hear how Demolition is too much like Ball and Chain Slam because of being able to move figures. They will be different enough even if the wording for Demolition needs tweaking. Demolition is kind of important to me (in whatever form it ends up) because it helps show how Wrecker will knock a building out from under his enemy to get them down to fight. Re: The Book of Thunderball - Design Phase
To make it different, Demolition could have some extra oomph against DOs?

Re: The Book of Thunderball - Design Phase
Yeah, I'd think Demolition should tear apart DOs with relative ease.
C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: The Book of Thunderball - Design Phase
I'm not sure if you misunderstood Griff, but he was going to be able to reach up to 8 levels as it was "3 levels higher than Thunderball's height", not just up to 3 levels from his base.

Re: The Book of Thunderball - Design Phase
I did misunderstand.
How often do you suspect that will be a factor though, and is it enough to make it useful/interesting. |

Re: The Book of Thunderball - Design Phase
I don't know that in itself would have made it super useful or happen a lot, but it was something to make it kind of different. The thing that was going to be more useful was being able to choose a space instead of a figure, that way if you had 2 figures adjacent to you but they weren't adjacent to each other but separated by 1 space, TB could choose the space between them and affect them both instead of just getting to attack one of them. He'd be able to choose the space under a castle wall and affect a figure on the other side. That kind of stuff was the original intent, to help make it different and exciting enough because I know whenever I try to go simple, people always want more cowbell or whatever, so I was going with something a little less conservative.
The new direction that you and Bats came up with adds enough fun and is different enough to make him not so boring, it's also easier as far as gameplay. So that's what I'm going with and continuing testing with. 2 new Squad Tests added to test sheet. Edit: Just finished Army Test 1, but won't be able to post until later. Re: The Book of Thunderball - Design Phase
For what it's worth, I totally dug the original space-based direction, but game mechanics make it too tough to do that one as intended.

Re: The Book of Thunderball - Design Phase
Test sheet updated with both army tests. Thunderball did fine individually like Piledriver did. But I wouldn't add to the cost for either of them to account for The Wrecking Crew power as it's too random and Crew specific to be worth much. If their cost was too high based on that power, they'd under-perform too much to be worth drafting much IMO.

Re: The Book of Thunderball - Design Phase
Ouch! X-Men loss was brutal. I think Piledriver and Thunderball might fair a little better against a squad based army like Hydra Agents/Masterminds or Street Thugs/Crimelords etc. A map with a few DO's will help too. Having all four of them together in an army will give you a lot more chances at activating Wrecking Crew.
180 looks good for testing. |
