Tutorial: Rebasing DnD Bases, All Large D3 Figs Up(W/ Pics)

Once WOTC droped Heroscape I felt it would be better to re-base those annoying DnD bases, knowing there wont be anymore coming out to re-base. I don't know, maybe I feel like I'm "Sticking it to the man"

Re-basing D3 Large Heroes to Deathwalker Bases

Spoiler Alert!

The first of the re-basing is the large Heroes from D3, I'll work on small units after this.

What You Need:
Deathwalkers
Printer With Enough Ink
Glue (Rubber cement works well)
Super glue
Sharp Knife (X-acto is good)
Some patients and the ability to not slice your finger open with the knife

First, you need get some spare Deathwalkers. Buy some extras from some friends or something, I don't know.

I bought a few off Augies to have enough.(I think they are a buck fifty there)

You can then cut through the glue on the bases pretty easily with a knife, and then with a quick tug they should pop right off.



After that I used some warm water and rubbing alcohol to remove the remaining sticker.



Once all the base and stickers were removed, I went on to de-basing a figure. (In this case, I'm using a MOTH) You'll need to take the knife again and remove the figure. These are a little harder to remove, I ended up just sawing through the pegs. (And destroying the base he was on)




Before gluing the new figure onto the Deathwalker base you'll need to apply a new sticker. For this I used Malechi's Heroscape Base Stickers, which I then printed out onto glossy paper. Once printed, cut a circle the size of the base and glue it to the base. Rubber cement works fine.


Now that you've got the base ready, you will need cut small holes in the plastic where the figure will stand so that when you glue the figure it will bond to the plastic. Its also a good to score both parts of where the plastic meets for a better bond. This will give you a much smaller chance of the figure ever coming of the base.



Now just dab some super glue on the small holes you've made and position the figure on them quickly. Now Your Done!

He looks like he's to big for the base because I mistakenly set him back to far, normally He would fit fine.

Ice Giant

So far it looks like all the figures will fit on Deathwalker bases; although the Frost Giants feet might hangover slightly and the tip of Moltenclaw's tail will hang over slightly just like his wings do.

I plan on do the rest of Large Heroes and will post Pictures. The small Figures will come next.

I'm glad DW9K isn't a very useful figure at all, still there aren't going to be any left if people re-base all the D3 figs.

That's what I was thinking before I re-based them. I just checked Augie's and there are only two in stock.

Edit: Wow, I didn't relies how much junk I left in the backgrounds of the pictures.

I don't know, maybe use them for customs? I'm sure I'll find a use for them.

Ya, those are the only units that I was thinking about leaving alone. If they look like they'll turn out nice (Once I get the rest of the bases I need) then I'll re-base them.

Anyway, I can probably have enough time to do another figure and upload it tomorrow. I was thinking about Moltenclaw.
