Re: The Book of Shadowcat (II) (Breathing Period)
NAME = SHADOWCAT II
SECRET IDENTITY = KITTY PRYDE SPECIES = MUTANT UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO CLASS = PROTECTOR PERSONALITY = LOYAL SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 4 LIFE = 4 MOVE = 6 RANGE = 1 ATTACK = 4 DEFENSE = 4 POINTS = 170 AIRWALKING Before moving normally with Shadowcat, you may subtract 3 from her Move number. If you do, Shadowcat has the Flying special power for the remainder of her turn, but may not move up more than 12 levels. PHASE MASTERY Shadowcat can move through all figures, Fortress Walls, and obstacles, and is never attacked when leaving an engagement. After moving Shadowcat on your turn, you may choose one figure she moved through. If the chosen figure is: • a friendly figure, place it adjacent to Shadowcat, ignoring leaving engagement attacks. • an opponent's figure, it rolls 1 fewer defense die when attacked by Shadowcat this turn, or 2 fewer defense dice if the chosen figure is an Android. REACTIONARY PHASING If Shadowcat is attacked by an opponent's figure and at least 1 skull is rolled, roll the 20-sided die, adding 6 to your roll if the attacking figure is not adjacent to Shadowcat. If you roll 12 or higher, Shadowcat takes no damage. Last edited by tcglkn; June 17th, 2021 at 04:13 PM. |

Re: The Book of Shadowcat (II) (Breathing Period)
Not sure if I chimed in on this one later on in the process, but I really like where this ended up.
Make sure to post a link to the thread in the Control Room and PM the Heroes so they know the thread's started. I always forget to do that. |

Re: The Book of Shadowcat (II) (Breathing Period)
I really like where the design is at. The only change I'd like to see is the numbers on Reactionary Phasing tweaked; a 50% chance to dodge in melee seems a little too good. I'd go with triggering on a 13+ with a boost of 5 against range, personally.

Re: The Book of Shadowcat (II) (Breathing Period)
Could always split the difference at 12. 13+ for a 4 defense 4 life character is a bit rough IMO. Especially if she's supposed to be able to stand a chance against Wolverine, as Gutudak has said she does.
I think the non-adjacent + to the roll should be higher IMO. We're going from Intangibility which can't be harmed non-adjacently, to a need of an 8 or higher. So I think we should lower that requirement a bit. Perhaps a 12 or higher, with a +6 to her roll? |

Re: The Book of Shadowcat (II) (Breathing Period)
I'd be okay with testing 12/+6 numbers and seeing how it goes.

Re: The Book of Shadowcat (II) (Breathing Period)
Like where the design gotten to, though I do agree her Reactionary Phasing roll should probably go up, especially since you can pretty easily boost her d20 rolls with figures like Sage and Destiny.

Re: The Book of Shadowcat (II) (Breathing Period)
Even with Magneto II, Destiny, and Sage boosting her, she'd need a 8+(35% chance she fails that roll). Not that amazing in the grand scheme of things for how much you're pouring into her IMO, as when she does get hit, she's going down quick, and she's not exactly a major offensive threat.

Re: The Book of Shadowcat (II) (Breathing Period)
Spider-Man is 5 Life/3 Defense, dodges on a 9+, and I've seen him last for-stinkin'-ever with a run of good rolls. Given how easy it will be to boost Kitty's rolls compared to Spidey's, I definitely think she should come in a little above that.
On a whole though, you know I'm on board. ".... the Cambridge ladies do not care, above Cambridge if sometimes in its box of sky lavender and cornerless, the moon rattles like a fragment of angry candy" |

12/+6 for Reactionary Phasing sounds good to me. Updated the SP.

Re: The Book of Shadowcat (II) (Breathing Period)
You are not supposed to update the SP until after the Breathing Period expires.

Re: The Book of Shadowcat (II) (Breathing Period)
I'd say it's a solid starting point for testing. We'll make sure to test with the likes of Magneto/Sage/Destiny to ensure it's not playing above what we're shooting for point wise. 170-200 gives her some good breathing room.
With other Mutants out there with much more prominent d20 rolls with more drastic results, I can't see her just being able to stay alive on an 8+ with all of their bonuses in effect for very long. Even if she does, her offensive threat doesn't warrant much concern from me. A potential of reducing their defense by 1(or 2 with the limited Androids) and attack of 4(5 boosted by Sage) isn't too concerning. The fact that she can't move after avoiding like Angel, Daredevil, and Spider-Man etc. also means she won't be able to get out of range of melee attackers, so multiple attackers will still have her number in the long run. Unlike Daredevil and Spider-Man, she has no range, so she will need to stay adjacent to attack, which also puts her at more of a risk of eventually getting hit. With 4 life(1 less than Spider-Man), and 4 defense(1 less than Daredevil), I think it'll feel reasonable even at its best. Last edited by Arkham; June 23rd, 2016 at 01:57 PM. |
