Not a bad solution V. -1 shield is more powerful than -2 def. die (on average .667 shields), but that is okay with me. It won't stop the Flash from rolling a blank but it does cover most other figures.

I really like that. It will help Death and also Fire when he comes around. With Fear and Mortis having static powers, the Dark Judges should work nicely together.

Actually, V's edit concerns me from a competitive point of view. With Death and possibly other figures, they wouldn't get any defense. I know from certain OM combos how unfun that can be, so unfortunately that power edit gets a from me.

Hmmm, what if we combined the well known fear effect from the YL's with something akin to Scarlet Witch's Hex Sphere Disturbance?

If only one figure is engaged to Judge Fear, that figure rolls 2 fewer defense dice and, once per attack, must reroll all dice that show shields. Judge Dredd and figures with the Fearless and Insane personalities are not affected by Face of Fear.

This way it's not automatic, but it could still help Death with Death Sentence SA. I'm sure the wording needs help, but the point gets across.

This is much nastier than -1 shield. If Thor is attacked while adjacent to Fear, he would only roll 6 dice. An "average" roll would only net him 2 shields, which he would then have to re-roll, likely ending with 0-1 shield.

Interesting. It feels a little too powerful. Maybe one less defense and re-roll or possibly just re-roll shields.

I don't see how the version I posted would be any stronger then a large number of powers on existing units: Wasp's (I) SA, Yellowjacket's SA, Speedy's (Mia) SA, Green Arrow's special power. All of these are very cheap options that can, by themselves, prevent an opponent from rolling any defense dice.

Wolverine would be nasty with it. Wolverine subtracts defense dice and can attack up to 3 times, combine that with your version of FOF and he becomes more powerful than he usually is limit it to just Dark Judges and I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Limiting it to Dark Judges is a good back-up plan.

Agreed, just because something is technically possible doesn't mean it's actually feasible. That's the kind of combo that can be checked in Initial Playtesting, but I personally don't see any need to preemptively change the power because of speculation like this.

Also, combos like that already exist by using units like Vertigo, Darkseid, and Iron Monger.
