fwiw, defensive bonus until it receives enough wound has my preference after the shadow thing (which I shouldn't bother mentioning at this point).
C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

I could go with the D bonus until damage, but I think it is above Shadow while being below Tickle's idea. However, Tickle can save that idea for the Breakable Wall if he wants.

Maybe combine the crumbling with the defense booster? Just spitballing; I feel it might be a bit on the complex side for the ruins:

CRUMBLING COVER
If there are less than 2 Wound Markers on this card, figures adjacent to this destructible object roll 2 additional defense dice. If there are 2 or more Wound Markers, this destructible object rolls 2 fewer defense dice.

I can get behind any of these great suggestions. Degrading Cover, and Crumbling Cover, especially. I am no longer considering the Shadow tiles idea since several people have spoken against them.
