The Book of Max Mercury

I think anything that's Max + other speedsters, versus an army with one or two guys that Max counters, works. Haven't really done anything to try and leverage the fact that he's a Mystery Man, which could be fun to play around with.

Yeah, a Mystery Man build focused around Jay/Max/Hawkman might be solid.

Damage: 2 wounds to Prof X, and an ignored 3 skull attack on the Prof.

Superspeed: Always useful, moved extra spaces twice.

Quicksilver Strike: Triggered 3 times.

Zen Master of Speed: Let Flash and Quicksilver avoid Wolvie's claws a few times and then all the Speedsters basically laughed at Blob.

This test was set up to really push Max's Zen Master power. And it was pretty effective. Blob was much less annoying when figures could zip away and Wolverine is less scary without his claws. The way I built the X-Men army, they were relying on those two to be their heavy hittes and the Speedsters were not phased. The Dazzler/Jubilee clean up crew did work on Max and finished off Quicksilver but they still fell to Barry.

Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Barry Allen with 2 wounds and Commander Rogers with 1 wound.

Damage dealt: 2 wounds to Human Torch with his normal attack (boosted by his Quicksilver Strike) and another wound with a LEA when he Flame's On to kill Max.

Zen Master of Speed: Jay left engagement with Mister Fantastic once to chase down and finish off Invisible Woman.

I might have played the Mystery Men a little poorly but even with the ability for Jay and Max to zoom away from Mister Fantastic and allow Jay to take down Invisible Woman, they just weren't able to get the job done. Thing got a couple of big turn in when they left Mister Fantastic at 4 wounds for too long. It helps that Mister Fantastic rolled 18 and 19 back to back in round 1 to get their pod set up in the middle of the field.

Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Human Torch with 1 life remaining, Thing with just 2 wounds.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: He's a nice synergy piece for the speedsters, being able to get away from Blob and Mister Fanastic is a nice ability for them to have as a faction. I always enjoy playing with Barry and Quicksilver (speedsters in general, but those are the ones I have the most games with) and Max seems like a nice companion for them.

Thanks, Tickle! Feeling pretty good about moving him forward at 190. Record is pretty effective about him being good against armies that are built on disruptive stuff that speedsters hate, but no great shakes in really any other context.

Ronin, any preferences between getting this out now in Pillars of Society or saving it for a likely Flash Wave in 2021?

Narrow preference for holding out for a Flash release. More tightly themed there.

Sounds good. That's our early favorite for having enough figures for the Anniversary Wave, so I don't mind keeping him in for that if you don't.
