PROPOSAL FOR INITIAL CHECKLIST

(Done once the Design is finalized, before or as part of the proposal for the Initial Playtest)

1. Check if we are recycling a unit name or special power name. We are not.
2. What happens when the powers are negated (Zatanna, etc.)? Nothing special.
3. Should the powers affect destructible objects, undead, constructs, etc? Yes, yes, yes. And it does.
4. Check if the powers work correctly in a mirror match or in a mutiplayer game. It works normally.
5. Do the powers allow turn stacking? No
6. Are any powers expected to work after all figures have been destroyed? If so, is that clearly worded? When Glomulus dies, his power dies with him.
7. Do any powers place figures on this card? If so, how does it interact with other place-on-card powers (Bug Drop, Frenchie’s Air Drop, Alternate Realities, Penance Stare 19, Helicarrier Drop Team, Timestream Reinforcements)? N/A
8. Does a power trigger off of an Order Marker being revealed on another Army Card? If so, is the power expected to trigger if all figures associated with that Army Card have been destroyed? If so, does this allow turn stacking, overpowered passive movement abilities, or unclear power timing? N/A
9. Is it clear which powers are mandatory and which are optional? It is optional.
10. Does any power's name or wording unintentionally prohibit the power's reusability? This power would not be used elsewhere, though variations of it are (such as Beast Boy's Dino-Bite).
11. Are there any competitive concerns brought up by the CRB that need to be addressed in testing? I'm not knowledgable about the C3G competitive metagame, but Glomulus doesn't bring anything crazy new with his power. Just make sure he doesn't break Larfleeze, since Larfleeze now has an Orange Construct he can start the game with.

- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes.
- What should be the unit's point value? Sticking with 140 for the Army Tests. 2-3 here, so not great for Glom, but 140 is the target cost so I want to see how team play goes.
- Give a brief overview. Glomulus did alright here, but not great. Avartie Appetite didn’t occur much, as to be expected, and 3 life and 3 attack are low stats for 1v1.

A lucky roll in an early turn took down Glomulus.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Rorschach unharmed.

TEST 2
Units: Vs. Blanka (140).
Much closer this time, but still no hits on Avarice Appetite.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Blanka w/ 3 wounds.

TEST 3
Units: Vs. Dhalsim (140).
Yoga Fire obliterated Glomulus’ low life.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Dhalsim unharmed.

TEST 4
Units: Vs. Spider-Girl (140).
Avarice Appetite finally hit! A good and fair fight.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Glomulus w/ 2 wounds.

TEST 5
Units: Vs. Falcon (140).
Avarice Appetite hit two turns in a row.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Glomulus w/ 2 wounds.

- Give a brief overview. Glomulus was very useful in an army situation, given the flexibility offered by Larfleeze’s Orange Lantern Corps power.

Units: Glomulus (140), Orange Lantern (Lex Luthor), Orange Lantern (Larfleeze), Orange Construct (Stolen Identity) x1 (950) vs. Volstagg, Fandral, Hogun, and SWAT Explosives Expert x1 (955).

Avarice Appetite wounded enemies 1 out of 5 attempts, destroying enemies 0 times.

The Orange Lanterns advanced to meet the Warriors Three early on, with Lex Luthorand Glomulus teaming up to punish Fandral’s early attempts. Glomulus managed to take out Fandral with normal attacks, bringing the Stolen Identity into play. The ID went to duel Volstagg and do some good damage to the Mead supply as Glomulus managed to chomp on Hogun once. Glomulus fell to Hogun’s shenanagins, but Larfleeze was too strong for the warrior and even Volstagg after the ID was defeated. Lex had no issue mopping up the SWAT in one turn.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Larfleeze w/ 4 wounds, and Lex Luthor w/ 2 wounds.

- What should be the unit's point value? Hard to say, it was a stomp.
- Give a brief overview. Massive loss for the Lanterns here. Larfleeze got heavily punished early on which really dampened the potential.

Units: Glomulus (140), Orange Lantern (Larfleeze), Orange Lantern (Lex Luthor), and Orange Construct (Stolen Identity) x2 (1050) vs. Frankenstein, Man-Bat, Red Hulk, Atom (Ray Palmer) and Blanka (1050).

Normal Attack Damage:
None.

Avarice Appetite wounded enemies 0 out of 1 attempts, destroying enemies 0 times.

After a set-up round from all sides, Frankenstein and Red Hulk went ham on Larfleeze. Atom Irritated Lex Luthor, and Glomulus missed his first Avarice Appetite attempts. Larfleeze was not holding well on defense and died quickly, leaving the Lanterns out to dry. Frankenstein and Red Hulk proceeded to obliterate Glomulus and tear through Lex Luthor’s battery markers in the following rounds. The best Lex could do was reflect a few wounds onto Frankenstein.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Frankenstein w/ 4 wounds, Blanka w/ 3 wounds, Red Hulk, Man-Bat, and Atom unharmed.

- What should be the unit's point value? He’s not feeling like 140 now. Tough to manage. 120, or closer to 100 feels on right now.
- Give a brief overview. The Lanterns had a huge lead, and then they didn’t.

The Wrecking Crew immediately swarmed Larfleeze upon his advance onto a sole space of hieght. Larlfeeze defended his life as he took down Thunderball, changing the plan to allow a Stolen Identity and Glomulus to activate each turn. Together, the two put down Piledriver, but damage didn’t come fast enough to Wrecker before Larfleeze finally fell, eliminating both Stolen Identities and allowing Glomulus to become easy prey for Bulldozer.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Bulldozer and Wrecker unharmed.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: He has his shining moments, but Glomulus isn’t worth 140 points right now. Against most figures, an 18 is needed to do damage with Avarice Appetite. The extra use is difficult to set up and his weak attack of 3 rarely results in any damage from anything other than the special power. To achieve 140, I think bringing the required roll down to 14-2 would be a tremendous help.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: Despite his shortcomings, Glomulus provides a stable option for Larfleeze’s Orange Lantern Corps power, significantly boosting the faction.

Here we are! He could use a boost for sure.

One thing I thought of but didn't try was that Larfleeze, Lex, and Glomulus all slot into a Star-Lord army together. Worth trying in public testing.

I agree with your assessment that he's looking weak from those tests. Additionally it is sounding like Avarice Appetite is fairly frustrating/disappointing as-is due to the low chance of it working. I'm in favor of going with your suggested change. I don't think he necessarily needs to slot in at 140, but it would be kinda nice if he did.

I do think Glomulus will do a lot better against squads, for obvious reasons.

The suggested change:

AVARICE APPETITE
Before attacking, you may choose one figure or unequipped glyph adjacent to this Orange Construct. If you chose anything other than a Unique Hero or Event Hero, destroy it. Otherwise, roll the 20-sided die. Subtract 2 from the roll if the chosen figure has Super Strength. If you roll 14 or higher, the chosen figure receives 2 wounds. After destroying a glyph or figure with this special power, you may remove a Wound Marker from this card and use this special power one additional time.

I don't know the character or story at all so this is just a question on theme, is it really important for him to eat twice per OM reveal? Like does he double chomp stuff in the comics all the time or something? I ask because I think having it only work once will help you find a balance between the automatic squad figure kills and the not automatic hero damage. You could lower the d20 for the hero wounds quite a bit if it only triggered once, making it a more consistent 0-2W per OM, rather then 0, 2, or sometime 4W per OM.

Orange Constructs (like Orange Lanterns) are special.

That's a solid idea. There's not really a need for him to chomp twice thematically.

And yeah, Orange Constructs (and Glomulus in particular) exist fairly independently of Larfleeze, though Larfleeze ultimately controls them. In the solo Larfleeze comic series apparently his constructs actually rebelled against him.

This is what I would try out then to see how it feels. Play him vs. a hero bonding squad and see how the decision play out. Auto destroy a squad figure, or gamble for 2W on the hero?

I'd be okay with that direction. It never came up but 4 wounds on a Hero can be gnarly.
