C3G Requests for Reevaluation

I'd also like to point that the event we are running at the moment is the first of it's kind we've done. We usually do variants of Bring 2 armies, with scatterings of other events.

While I had my share of hero-centric builds for armies, both for the tested unit and/or the opposing army, I also liked to have some armies with a few squads in them here and there, especially ones having synergy with a hero (though AIM Agents certainly didn't have one at the time I tested with them). Part of that was for our concern of swarming type armies or ones that can get like 3 or 4 ranged attacks per OM, aside from any bonding unit.

Aside from some of the classic C3G hero mandatory builds (Mutant/FF4/Vigilante etc), I guess the hero builds have evolved so that squads really don't have much value other than for casual play.

It looks like you have mandatory units for part of the price and then fill out the rest of the total army cost as you see fit? Pretty neat idea.

I think the apes are the most competitive squad. I've rolled over some hero armies with them. Hawkmen army is not bad either but are a bit tricky to execute properly if not familiar with how they work. Once you master their dance they can drop a lot of heroes.

In terms of pure offensive force, absolutely agree. Beat Cops are annoying Scissors stuff at the level of Deathreavers in Valhallascape, but Apes make pretty fierce Paper armies that often feel overpowered to me when you get Solovar in there.

Also, an announcement here about our reevaluation process that will hopefully expedite some stuff (though we still need that last Surtur test before we can move forward on anything else!).

Going forward, we're going to allow the CRB (Competitive Review Board) that we just selected to vote in their sanctum to officially endorse a unit in need of reevaluation. If they do, that will count in place of one of the three playtests showing a figure is "broken" that we currently require to put something in the reevaluation process.

So, for instance, assuming they voted that way, that would put Commander Rogers one test away from being eligible for the reevaluation process, with dok's latest results and a likely official endorsement from the CRB.

OK, some updates for you all and for @TrollBrute for the SP:

We've voted in the sanctum to allow the Competitive Review Board vote to endorse units for reevaluation. If they do, this counts as one of the three playtests needed to begin the reevaluation process on something. Hopefully with all the tourney play going on, we can get some of these to the third test quickly! Then it's just a matter of talking adjustments to the design and retesting them and updating the art.

Here is the first round of units the CRB has voted (unanimously) to endorse for reevaluation (please update accordingly in the SP, TB): Sage, Commander Rogers, Mastermind, Bizarro, Crow, Jocasta, and Indigo-1

Just finished another knock-down, drag-out affair with SSG1. Mxy chose to antagonize the Hood - he never hit the 17+ all game, but the threat was enough to keep SSG1 from putting many OMs on the Hood, which was the point.

Things started horrendously for me - Angel took Cash with him on a treasure hunt and Tarantula popped Cash for 3 wounds (and I only got the shield belt, which failed on its first attempt). Then Tarantula fragged Cash with the eye blast on his next turn (Cash was behind the lines and next to Mastermind, which I thought would protect him, but I had misinterpreted Eye Blast.)

The Hired Guns took to the high ground and shot at Mastermind and others, but some Angel rescues got me fully podded up and shut them down two attacks into the series of 8. I managed to thin out the Hired Guns before Tarantula killed Mastermind. It was looking pretty bleak for me at that point, but Spider-Girl came up big, hitting back-to-back bio-mag field rolls to give me a chance to pound Tarantula down with Luke Cage and her. I dropped Beetle on the other glyph hoping to get some extra attacking power, but got the e-rings instead (which I then forgot to use the one chance I had, too).

The Hood and Parasite moved up, as I brought Mxy into the fray. Even though I never hit with the 17+, I used Angel and engagements with Mxy to keep Hood from ever getting his bonding turn. While Hood was pretty inactive, Parasite was simply amazing, wiping out Spider-Girl, Luke Cage, Blue Beetle, and putting two wounds on Angel before Mxy finally brought him down. That special power just devastated me.

Mxy managed to deal with the Hood, so it came down to Wizard vs. Mxy, center stage. I rolled 5 a lot, but never rolled a 4 or less, and Mxy eventually outlasted Wizard (and blasted the last Hired Gun) for the win. I had a 2-life Angel and both Skrulls, in addition to Mxy, at the end.

Great game SSG1! It was not my best (I made several mistakes) but you played great. It was an impressive run for the event while sticking to theme; it goes to show that the spread between theme armies and the cheese is not that big.

The dice were very much against me for much of it, but the consistent d20 at the end made up for it.

So, my misinterpretation of Tarantula's special (I thought the different language from Sonic Scream meant that he needed targets, but in retrospect it just means he needs hitzones, which is not the same thing) meant that Mastermind was actually a fairly poor play here. Nevertheless, his bonding with Angel allowed me to move 3 figures a turn a couple times early on (plus I activated Spider-Girl with both him and Luke Cage). The biggest thing he did was limit the Hired Guns. SSG1 had to rush them into engagement, and I was able to drastically limit their attacks. Given how poorly things were going for me early on, a few more Hired Gun hits probably sinks my army before it gets going.

EDIT: upon reflection, Mastermind was more important than I gave him credit for. Luke Cage has no range, and I was going up against Tarantula and The Hood and Hired Guns early. Nevertheless, I was able to draw them to me, which was critical in taking down Tarantula (I got a bunch of attacks of 7 with Cage on asphalt on height). Once Mastermind was dead, Luke Cage had to come down from the asphalt to deal with the Hood, and that hurt his effectiveness.

Thanks, dok! Might want to at least bold the end results so that they're obvious and it looks more like an official report. I think that's a step toward Getting Mastermind in the process.
