The Book of Lightning Lad (II)

Any ideas to give this design a slight boost? One idea I had was giving him an attack boost when taking a turn with Legion Assault. Could also make Riposte work on all attacks, but Garth is the kind of character where I like him having slight weaknesses to “strange” things like SAs.

Could make Riposte against normal or adjacent attacks effectively making it NOT work on Ranged Special Attacks. Gives it a sort of electric touch feel.

Here's my idea:

Once per round, after revealing an Order Marker on a Legionnaire you control, instead of taking a turn with that Legionnaire, you may take a turn with Lightning Lad and up to 2 other Legionnaires you control, during which;
-They may not move normally if Lightning Lad was engaged at the start of your turn; or,
-They may not attack if Lightning Lad was not engaged at the start of your turn.
You may not take any additional turns with figures you control.

That would get rid of the "tactical error" aspect of the whole design, which is a bit of a bummer, but it would also remove his need to charge into melee and would obviously be a big boost.

Luck was more in the favor of the Legionnaires here, but in general they felt like a slightly stronger unit/harder to take down. Cage not making any big attacks didn't help, but Moon Knight and Iron Fist, their biggest threats, got taken down super quick.

Close finish that felt like anyone's game. Had Wasp landed more of her Stings(she hit 1/4 dice), she may have taken it.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY:
2 pretty reasonable games, one very close and the other a medium victory(which had some luck at play). Overall, he feels like a fine addition to the Legionnaires, who are already a pretty solid faction. 220 seems fine to me.

ROUND 1 : Assassin initiative.
Both teams look for the high ground in the center. Boomerang targets Bouncing Boy and Timber Wolf with a Shatterang, but fails to wound. The round ends with Timber Wolf engaging Boomerang and dealing 1 wound.

ROUND 2 : Assassin initiative.
Noob teleports XS to the low ground adjacent to him and attacks her alongside his Wraith, they deal 1 wound. Bouncing Boy tries to go in and use his special attack, but Cheshire stops him from wounding anyone. Lightning Lad uses Legion Assault, XS goes after Ra’s but fails to wound him. Lightning Lad and Timber Wolf also fail to wound their targets. Ra’s activates League of Assasins, taking a turn with his whole army. They all target Bouncing Boy, leaving him with 1 life. Ra’s attacks XS, and easily takes her out. The round ends with Timber Wolf heavily wounding Boomerang.

ROUND 3 : Assassin initiative.
Cheshire kills Bouncing Boy with her Poison Tipped Claws. With OM 1 on Bouncing Boy, Noob teleports Timber Wolf to low ground, and deals 3 wounds to him. Timber Wolf flies back up and easily kills Boomerang. Cheshire comes up, and kills Timber Wolf with a strong attack roll.

ROUND 4 : Legion initiative.
Being the last left, Lightning Lad keeps his distance and fires, dealing 3 wounds to Noob. Noob trades fire on OM 1, and teleports Lighting Lad to low ground on OM 2. Lad takes some damage, but manages to kill Noob with Shocking Riposte. He flies to high ground (staying adjacent to Cheshire) and attacks her, dealing 1 wound. She attacks on OM 3, dealing a wound with Poison Claws and then 1 more wound with her normal attack, killing Lightning Lad. Assassins win!


Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Ra’s Al Ghul 6/6 Life, Cheshire 1/4 Life

Post-Game Thoughts : Lightning Lad put in some serious work at the end. If the rest of the Legionnaires did a bit better, they easily could have taken the game. Shocking Riposte is a scary power when you’re out of special attacks.

Pre-Game Thoughts/Preview : Lightning Lad with Cosmic Boy. The X-Men lack any heavy hitters on the level onf Mon’El, but they have a good amount of autowounds that the Legion will have to watch out for,.

Damage Done (Normal Attack) : Used 7 times, 4 wounds to Mystique, 4 wounds to Professor X, 3 wounds to Angel
LEGION ASSAULT : Used each round. Really opens up OM placement with Cosmic Boy.
SHOCKING RIPOSTE : N/A, but Mutants deliberately avoided using normal attacks on him to avoid activating this.
ELECTRICALLY CHARGED : N/A

ROUND 1 : Mutant initiative.
The fighting starts fast. The mutants start opening fire, but can’t scratch Mon-El. Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad, and Mon-El go in on OM3, with Jean Grey dying from a big Cosmic Boy attack.

ROUND 2 : Mutant initiative.
Tough round from the mutants. It ends with Iceman and Mystique dead. Cosmic Boy is wounded however, and it’ll take some concentrated fire to kill Deadpool.

ROUND 3 : Mutant initiative.
Cosmic Boy keeps throwing Deadpool around when he tries to start his offense. However Angel flies up and kills Cosmic Boy. Mon-El and Saturn Girl combines forces to take Deadpool out. Professor X and Angel realize they’re gonna have to start making some moves, so they fly up and nearly kill Saturn Girl.

ROUND 4 : Legion initiative.
Professor X put up a solid fight, managing to kill Saturn Girl. However, Mon-El and Lightning Lad have a bit too much offense, and sweep through the remaining two mutants fairly easily. Legionnaires win!

Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Lightning Lad 4/4 Life, Mon-El 6/7 Life, Oracle 4/4 Life

Post-Game Thoughts : Lightning Lad makes a very solid 2nd leader for Cosmic Boy. Putting OM 3 on Cosmic Boy and using Legion Assault so that you can put the X on someone like Saturn Girl or Oracle felt good.

Thoughts on the Tested Unit's Cost, Balance, and Draftability : Very solid addition to Legion armies. Makes a fine leader in lower cost games, but felt best working with Cosmic Boy.

General Thoughts on the Tested Unit : Fun add to the Legion! I really enjoyed how he felt alongside Cosmic Boy. I think the trio of Lightning Lad/Cosmic Boy/Mon-El felt strong, but not anything wild.

Seems like everyone is digging him at 220. I'll leave it open for comments for a bit, bu I personally feel fine moving to FE.
