Well, you could add that he only removes 1 or two markers, or something like that, but increase the likely hood of adding markers. That way he'll change hands more often, making for some crazy games, and he won't completely heal every little while.
And for the personality switch, I don't know the character at all, so I didn't know it's not thematic. I just thought it'd be fun for the synergies to switch mid-game!
