Character Bio - The man with the power of a million exploding suns! The Golden Guardian of Good! Gaining powers from a mysterious Super Serum, Robert Renolds becomes The Sentry!
As one of the world’s first and most recognizable superheroes, The Sentry has stood tall against the vilest of threats. A symbol of good in a world plagued with evil, he mentored such heroes as Spider-Man and Angel, and was the best friend of Mr Fantastic and The Hulk. He faced down villains such as Void and Crainio, and with his incredible power, he always came out on top.

...Wait… Why can no one remember him?

Robert Renolds is a down-on-his-luck, middle aged man. Living with his wife and dog and fighting a drinking problem, he doesn’t have any friends or other notable accomplishments. But something is coming. Something dark, and evil. And now he remembers not only his friend Reed Richards, but also his greatest enemy: The Void. The Void is coming, and only The Sentry can stop him. But as he begins the slow process of restoring the memories of the other heroes, Robert finds himself haunted by one question - What if he's not really the hero?

AGORAPHOBIA
Before taking a turn with Sentry, roll the 20-sided die. Add 2 to the roll if there are no revealed Order Markers on this card and subtract 2 from the roll for each Instability Marker on this card. If you roll 1-7, place a purple Instability Marker on this card and Sentry may not take a turn. After placing a fourth Instability Marker on this card, immediately place Sentry on this card without taking leaving engagement attacks. After revealing an Order Marker on this card, if Sentry is on this card, you may remove one Instability Marker from this card. At the end of your turn, if you removed the last Instability Marker from this card this turn, place Sentry on any empty space on the battlefield.

POWER OF A MILLION EXPLODING SUNS
After attacking with Sentry, one at a time, roll an unblockable attack die against all enemy figures other than the defending figure within X spaces of the space the defending figure occupied, and then, if the defending figure did not receive any wounds, roll X unblockable attack dice against that figure. X is equal to the number of Instability Markers on this card.

MIRACULOUS REALITY WARP
After taking a turn with Sentry, you may reveal an "X" Order Marker on this card and choose Sentry or an adjacent Hero. Place one Instability Marker on this card and either place or remove up to 2 Wound Markers from the chosen Hero's card.

I see no issues that couldn't be worked out in testing.

Re: The Book of Sentry: Design Phase

Thanks! I think a big part of this design will be finding the "sweet spot" for his d20 conversion. Ideally, he should be brought out only when 'the big guns' are needed; no more than once a round or twice in an emergency.

So if anyone has input on what d20 chances they'd personally take, witwhen drafting him at the 350-400 point level, please chime in!

1-8 is a good place to start, I think.

Re: The Book of Sentry: Design Phase

Looks great. Very interesting and cool how you really wouldn't want to use him all the time because you don't want him switching sides. Though if you are going to pay 350+ for a unit, you'd like to get to use him enough and hopefully not roll only 2 skulls for his attack. :D

Seems like you'd really have to have to build the team around him to limit the danger of him switching sides. Like have Hasbro Cap and Thor in your army and when they get engaged, bring Sentry in and get the +2 to his die roll.

The scary thing about it is if you are afraid to use him, it's a waste of points and if you do use him and roll poor after the first time using him, your opponent doesn't even have to put an OM on him unless absolutely necessary. So it could be like throwing away those points.

But like it was mentioned, testing and tweaking will get it to the right point in balance. :)

Re: The Book of Sentry: Design Phase

Interesting design. My only concern right now is draftability. If I feel like a unit has an almost guarantee of leaving me, I am simply not ever going to draft it, unless of course it has lots of raw power for really cheap, then the offer might tempt me from time to time. Well this guy certainly has lots of raw power in his stats, but those stats are soo high, I don't know if it can be justified to bring his cost down.

Also keep in mind that Mandarin can be drafted with him to completely prevent a mind control.

I don't know, I feel like this design is really too ambitious for a newb to the sanctum, and I watched GP struggle with his first ambitious designs until he figured out to tone things back. I am starting to feel deja-vu a bit, but Oh well. The design is here and we are all committed. :)

Re: The Book of Sentry: Design Phase

That's definitely a concern of mine too, Griff. If I, or a general consensus of others, feel it's out of control at any time, please let me know and I'll put him on hold.

Another option, that might make him less 'swingy', would be to instead of granting permanent control, making you choose an opponent to take a single turn with him (or roll before the turn and if you flunk, you choose an opponent to take your turn). The Sentry and the Void have something of a yin/yang relationship, so that may be the way to go.

Re: The Book of Sentry: Design Phase

Also keep in mind that your team should be drafted to help 'handle' him, so even if you do lose him, with several Manipulative/Valiant figures in your army, you should have decent odds of getting him back.

Re: The Book of Sentry: Design Phase

Finally, another option (that I played around with at one time), if have him have a base Attack of 7, cost around 400 points, and have the option to add 5 attack dice, with the possibility of him turning after.
