Re: The Book of Zatara - Breathing
NAME = ZATARA
SECRET IDENTITY = GIOVANNI ZATARA SPECIES = HOMO MAGI UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO CLASS = MAGICIAN PERSONALITY = PROTECTIVE SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5 LIFE = 4 MOVE = 5 RANGE = 4 ATTACK = 4 DEFENSE = 3 POINTS = 230 MYSTICAL ALLIANCE After revealing an Order Marker on this card, instead of taking a turn with Zatara, if he is within 6 clear sight spaces of an enemy figure, you may take a turn with up to two other Unique Hero figures you control with the Magical Defense special power. You may not take additional turns with other figures you control. ONE LAST TRICK If Zatara is destroyed, you may choose a Unique Hero you control that has the Magical Defense special power and place Zatara on the chosen figure’s Army Card. After taking a turn with the chosen Hero, if the chosen Hero has the identity Zatanna Zatara or if the chosen Hero attacked an enemy figure and did not inflict a wound, you may place Zatara on an empty space adjacent to the chosen Hero and take an immediate turn with Zatara. After taking a turn with Zatara this way, remove him from the game. MAGICAL DEFENSE When Zatara is attacked by an opponent's figure that does not have the Magical Defense special power, the most wounds Zatara can take for this attack is one. |

Re: The Book of Zatara - Breathing
Heh. I'll fix that, thanks. Tried to prep too many designs at once. :-P

Re: The Book of Zatara - Breathing
Him, Zatanna II, and Nemesis are probably a good grouping, doubling down on the "pick a species" stuff.

Re: The Book of Zatara - Breathing
I imagine he'll have a lot of good combos. All of the Zatannas and Doctor Fates and any other Unique Hero with Magical Defense is largely worth trying. An army with Raven and Tempest that lets Raven shuttle wounds off of her or Tempest is appealing too.

Re: The Book of Zatara - Breathing
Looks like fun - One Last Trick is a cool power, and a magic user hub sounds as though it'll make for fun builds! What's the theme behind Magical Quest, precisely?

It's what it sounds like! :-)

Re: The Book of Zatara - Breathing
I'd drop the "John" from the SI, we typically either use the nickname as the first name (Tony Stark) or just use the birth name. But SI doesn't really matter, so if you think differently feel free to ignore me.
Dig the design. :up: |
Re: The Book of Zatara - Breathing
A little disappointed he's not doing anything for Mystery Men, but I understand this is less a "Golden Age Mandrake rip-off" design and more a "modern 'this guy really only exists in flashbacks' dad" design. And on that front it's very successful, though I might make him a little more fragile to represent being "past his prime" (and more likely to end up on a card).
I also find Magical Quest kind of a vague power that doesn't seem particularly quest-y. I guess it's sort of an "Into the Unknown" type power, he's a veteran that's experienced with the supernatural? But I think the species thing throws that off a little bit, I don't see why he'd be any more useful against Martians or whatever. |
