Character Bio - Orphaned at birth for his red-on-black eyes, Gambit's Mutant ability to tap into the potential energy contained within an object and transform it into kinetic energy by touching it didn't manifest till his teen years. When Gambit thus charges an object and throws it at a target, the object releases this energy explosively on contact. Gambit was taken in by the Thieves Guild and had great promise until he was banished for killing a member of a rival group. Gambit then traveled the world as a professional thief. He met a de-aged Storm with amnesia and helped free her from the Shadow King. When Storm was returned to her normal self, she lobbied for Gambit to be allowed to join the X-Men, where he did not get along with Wolverine. _________________________________________________________________ -Rulings and Clarifications-

Re: The Book of Gambit - Design
NAME = GAMBIT
SECRET IDENTITY = REMY LEBEAU SPECIES = MUTANT UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO CLASS = THIEF PERSONALITY = CHARMING SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5 LIFE = 4 MOVE = 5 RANGE = 1 ATTACK = 4 DEFENSE = 5 POINTS = 210 DISENGAGE Gambit is never attacked when leaving engagements. STAFF VAULT 12 After moving normally at least 3 spaces, if he is not engaged, Gambit may move up to 3 spaces with Staff Vault. When moving with Staff Vault, Gambit has the Flying special power, but may not move up or down more than 12 levels in a single vault. After using Staff Vault, add 1 to Gambit's Attack number this turn. FIVE CARD DRAW SPECIAL ATTACK Range 4. Attack 1 or 2. Gambit starts each turn with 5 attack dice. Choose any non-adjacent figure within range and attack by rolling 1 or 2 attack dice. Gambit may keep making special attacks with 1 or 2 attack dice until he has rolled all 5 attack dice. When rolling attack dice for Five Card Draw Special Attack, if a skull is rolled on every die, each skull rolled counts for one additional hit. |
Re: The Book of Gambit - Design
To streamline things a bit, I wonder if we couldn't make this change to his special attack?
4 OF A KIND SPECIAL ATTACK Range 4. Attack 2. All skulls rolled with 4 of a Kind Special Attack count as one additional hit. If you roll a blank with 4 of a Kind Special Attack, the defending figure receives one automatic wound. When Gambit attacks with 4 of a Kind Special Attack, he may attack 3 additional times. Gambit may not attack the same figure more than twice. or 4 OF A KIND SPECIAL ATTACK Range 4. Attack 2. Re: The Book of Gambit - Design
What if we started with 52 Markers on his card. :ponder:
Just kidding. I like the special attack as it is, but I see how your version is simpler. |
Re: The Book of Gambit - Design
Yeah, it just seems like having four different things going on is a bit much ... I think the "blank" still represents the explosive power of the attack.
As much as I'd love to get another hero at 200 points besides Batman, I doubt this guy is worth more than Punisher as is. |

So should I power Gambit up or lower his cost? |
Re: The Book of Gambit - Design
Well for Mutants, there are currently two at 165, two at 170, two at 180, and one at 190. If possible, it'd be great to see him at 200. Going to 5 life, which wouldn't seem out of place at all to me, would be a good start, IMO. I'm not sure after that, but going to 5/5 would really help his survivability.
Not being landlocked is the one thing that gives him a distinct edge over Punisher. But Staff Vault is conditional enough that it's a tough one. |
Re: The Book of Gambit - Design
I had seen this last week, but I will say it again. Really great writeup of Gambit! This is the best writeup for him I have ever seen hands down.

If we're talking power increase, would this help?
