Character Bio - The son of Odin and Gaea, the oldest goddess of the Earth, Thor was raised in Asgard. From then on, the goddess Frigga served as Thor's mother. Thor grew up with his step-brother Loki. Loki was always jealous of the favored Thor. Odin had Mjolnir, a mystical hammer enchanted by magic and made of Uru, created for Thor when he became a worthy warrior. Mjolnir was enchanted by Odin to see that only those who are worthy to lift it may lift it. After years of training and accepting different quests to prove he was worthy to have the hammer, Thor still could not lift Mjolnir. Once his young friend Sif was kidnapped and Odin took some warriors with him to rescue her. Odin told Thor to remain in Asgard, but the young man could not stay in Asgard while his friend was in trouble. Thor went into the treasure room of Odin where the hammer was. Thor tried to lift the mighty hammer one more time and this time he was successful. After successfully lifting the hammer Thor became Asgard's greatest warrior. Thor spent several centuries fighting in battles, facing many adventures and doing countless heroic deeds.

-Rulings and Clarifications-
  • Q: Does Thor have to be adjacent to an enemy figure to use his Mjolnir Special Attack or can he just attack one figure from range?
    A: No he does not have to be engaged to use the special attack. As long as the special attack can target at least one figure then you can use it.
  • Q: In what order do the defending figures roll defense dice against Thor's Mjolnir Special Attack?
    A: The attacking player chooses the order the defending figures roll defense dice.

NAME = THOR
SECRET IDENTITY = THOR ODINSON

SPECIES = ASGARDIAN
UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = WARRIOR
PERSONALITY = VALIANT

SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5

LIFE = 8

MOVE = 6
RANGE = 1
ATTACK = 8
DEFENSE = 8

POINTS = 430

GOD OF THUNDER STRIKE

Instead of attacking, you may roll the 20-sided die for all figures within 2 spaces of Thor, one at a time. If you roll 16 or higher, that figure receives 3 wounds. This special power can only be used once per game.

MJOLNIR SPECIAL ATTACK
Range 6+Special. Attack 4.
Thor may attack one non-adjacent figure within 6 clear sight spaces, even if Thor is engaged, and any or all figures adjacent to Thor. Roll 4 attack dice once for all affected figures. Each figure rolls defense dice separately.

SUPER STRENGTH
FLYING

Oh, I didn't intentionally leave out the overhang part, that was just an oversight. I could see that both ways - no lightning because of the overhang, or the lightning blows right through the overhang. Either way.

Re: Thor - Design Phase

Any chance of making his class "Champion"? It seems like he should go the same way as Wonder Woman.

Re: Thor - Design Phase

I wouldn't be completely against it, because it certainly fits, but I was hoping we could come up some sorts of synergy in the future for Deities...?

Re: Thor - Design Phase

Who else would you see as a Diety in the future? If they were mostly Asgardians, then it might make more sense to go that way for synergy.

Re: Thor - Design Phase

He looks great, GreyOwl, but double shields with 6 defense might be too much. To compare:

Superman odds:
1 or more shields - 99%
2 or more shields - 94%
3 or more shields - 77%
4 or more shields - 50%
5 or more shields - 23%
6 or more shields - 6%
7 shields - 1%

Thor odds:
2 or more shields - 91%
4 or more shields - 65%
6 or more shields - 32%
8 or more shields - 10%
10 or more shields - 2%
12 shields - .1%

This will put Thor's defense significantly better than Superman's defense. In my opinion, Thor should have the stronger attack, but Supes should have the better "D".

Here's Thor's odds with 5 Defense w/ double shields:

2 or more shields - 87%
4 or more shields - 54%
6 or more shields - 21%
8 or more shields - 4%
10 shields - .4%

Even with a reduced defense of 5, Thor's defense is slightly better than Supes. Combine that with a ranged Special Attack and a nasty Thunder Strike and +1 attack, this Thor is closer to 450 pts.

Re: Thor - Design Phase

hmm ... well his defense should probably be dropped to at least 5 (4 would look too low, though!). But it sounds like more might need to be done to depower him a tad. 450 is a bit too high, IMO, but it's not out of the ballpark.

Re: Thor - Design Phase

I decided about 6 months ago that double shields was almost broken for any figures over 4 defense. The numbers really start to exponentially climb past four. Automatic shields are better, IMO. Problem is, they're just so "blah".

Re: Thor - Design Phase

Here are Thor's odds with 4 Defense w/ double shields:

2 or more shields - 80%
4 or more shields - 41%
6 or more shields - 11%
8 shields - 1%

EDIT: This really seems to be spot on, but 4 defense looks so pathetic on a Thor card. Plus, Wonder Woman would eat him alive.

Besides the Asgardians, there are the Greco-Roman deities in Marvel, like Hercules, Neptune, and Zeus. Furthermore, I could see using a class of Deity on figures like Galactus or Beyonder, too. In DC, there are Kryptonian gods, Greek gods, etc.

IAmBatman March 30th, 2010 03:56 PM

Re: Thor - Design Phase

I see Galactus and Beyonder more as "Entities" ... I guess part of it is I see "Diety" as more of a species than a class.
Also ... do we really want to have much synergy with units of that power level? It seems like they should be more stand alone.
