Temporary Hiatus - September 2016

Posted September 5th, 2016 at 06:39 PM by HS Codex
Greetings readers, and yes, as you can tell from the title, we are taking a brief temporary hiatus.

The hiatus shouldn't last any longer than two months, and might be shorter. We're probably going to play it by ear and get things rolling again when we are ready.

The reason for this hiatus is a sudden drop in available contributors due to a combination of RL priorities and simple absences. We hope to recruit during this time to fill the gap and get back into action soon.

You can stay up to date with our progress by following our facebook page here. Be sure to let us know if there are any changes you would like to see: now is the time to address them.

Until then, keep 'Scaping!

Contributors and Supporters - September 2016

Contributors and Supporters
Interview with Xotli
Author: The Grim Reaper’s Friend

Equal rights has always been a bit of a thing with me. And I’m not talking about the popular political issue. I’m talking about equal rights for contributors and supporters on this very site: HSers.

You see, site supporters have far more privileges than contributors do. It’s just a fact. This has always struck me as wrong and imbalanced. Certain site supporters long ago pointed out to me that without them, the site simply could not exist. But without the contributors, there wouldn’t be a site to exist. At least not the way it is today.

I know a lot of readers at this point will probably roll their eyes and move on, and I don’t blame them: this is clearly just the idea of one person, probably turned against site supporters early on by several incidents

Fan Art Spotlight - August 2016

Posted August 21st, 2016 at 07:41 PM by HS Codex

From the Desk of a Frostrager
A fan art spotlight
Author: Evar Scarcarver

I started writing this Spotlight soon after deciding on a concept idea and art piece. I started early, in order to get it on time for the editors to get it edited and posted.

And then I opened up the document and realized the article I had was horrible: the concept was cliché, the delivery was confusing, and I had no idea where I was going with it. And so, deadlines looming (past actually, which is worse), I made the insane decision to completely re-write my column in hopes that it would be something that someone somewhere might find worth reading.

This is one of the several reasons there was no From the Desk of a Frostrager last month.

My life has been really busy lately, filled with new responsibilities and expectations. Expectations

The 16 Card/Choice
C3G Team Drafting Game

for 4 Players

The following is an excerpt from kolakoski’s Gang of Four Article

Part I: Fundamentals

The scheme for this game is a combination of my “16 Card/Choice Draft” and Sherman Davies’ “Rules for Team Play,” as applied to C3G.

A. The 16 Card/Choice Draft: Exactly 16 army cards (and/or combinations of cards) are available for a Snake Draft (draft order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1) among the four Players. (See The Faceless Ones!)

B. Sherman Davies’ Rules for Team Play: Once the draft is complete, the players are paired off for a team game (two vs. two). As he describes it: “Instead of players controlling their own individual armies, players share all the [cards] on their team and can place their order markers on any of the team’s

Codex Customs Parallax Design
Monkey Swarm
Author: IshMEL, with Scytale and johnny139

Welcome to the new Codex Customs Parallax Design! Every few months, three designers will independently create a custom using the same figure. They will then discuss their own design process and critique each others’ designs. It’s our hope that you will glean some wisdom about custom design from the conversation. For our first Parallax Design, I am joined by my esteemed Codex Customs colleagues Scytale and johnny139. The three of us tried our hand at designing an army card for the Pathfinder Monkey Swarm:

The figure presents some interesting design challenges. How do you present a swarm of figures on one hex? Are these monkeys,
