Yesterday was a busy day at work.

Then around 10:30am the police phoned us, saying someone had claimed that a bomb had been planted in our building. They said they couldn’t tell us what to do- we could evacuate or just ignore it. They were sending a team over either way.

No one seemed to know what to do until I spoke. My job is not worth dying for.

We evacuated – there were only about twenty people in the building. I cleared them out and locked the place down. Then we stood in the parking lot waiting for the police to show up.

It was a gorgeous day to be outside. My teeny office has no windows and for once I could actually see the day and breathe real air.

We phoned the big bosses with someone’s cell phone outside and they arrived after a bit in their SUVs. They did not seem to want to take the bomb threat seriously. But they stayed away from the building.

For my family, the Heroscape adventure stopped.

We don’t have a lot of money. I’m a single dad with four kids and they’re just getting into dental braces.
To fund our heroscape addiction we have a jar on the kitchen table where spare money goes: money the kids earn shoveling snow in the neighbourhood, birthday money from grandma, etc.

We weren’t sure about D1 at all. I have internet at work but we’re not online at home. My daughter had been checking it out at the library, since she’s got the scape bug now too.
I’d come home Wednesday night after work (a late evening for me, working until 7pm usually) and relate what Truth had blogged about for the upcoming release.
I wasn’t hooked until the hydra- and that got my kids going too. However the phantom knights didn’t look all that great; so we made a plan to repaint them.

We ticked off the days on the calendar until the release came, and then waited...

As some of you know my family and I play a slightly modified version of Scape. Our heros have just two lives and squads one. We have some healers, but it is a tricky thing. We often play scenarios with goals.

On the last day of my crazy march break knight camp for kids all of the instructors vanished. We armed ourselves and took off for the darkest regions of the basement of the rambling old building we use as the school. The kids are terrified of the basement- it’s dark, maze-like, claustrophobic and supposedly haunted.

There were only three us down there, armed with foam swords. We picked a place where we could watch the entrances and got comfortable; we knew it would be a long wait.

I don’t really know what happened in our round table room, where the pages were assembled. I of course didn’t tell them what was going on. I just took off. But this is what I have pieced together:

I am back.
I was recently kidnapped- not by gang members, drug lords or aliens or anything like that. They wouldn’t be interested in me. Unless they wanted my scape…

I was hijacked, incarcerated by life. It was my own doing even! There is an axe hanging over me at work. I don’t know when it is going to fall, but fall it surely will. Sometimes extra work comes my way, and this time I felt I couldn’t say no because of that shimmering overhead axe. So for a month I have been doing three jobs, which I can tell you, isn’t much fun. Even when you get paid at the end, it’s not worth the hole in your life.

But enough of that. I survived and What I really want to tell you about is something I find most bizarre- it is one of the things that kidnapped me.
Can you imagine a March Break camp for girls and boys which is like a medieval military school?
Presided over by a taciturn knight with little patience, boys and girls aged 8...
