C3V Highlight 4-6-11

Posted April 6th, 2011 at 11:12 AM by truth
THE C3V HAS BEEN HARD AT WORK MAKING MORE HEROSCAPE FOR YOU:

Capt. John Varan has been summoned to Valhalla

The figure used for this unit is a Heroclix figure from the Cosmic Justice set. Its model number and name is 019, 020, 021/Sgt. Rock or 207/Gen. Frank Rock

Sweltering jungle heat blanketed the encampment of a Combined Action Platoon assigned to one of the hamlets within the Marine tactical area of responsibility. This fifteen man rifle squad had orders to protect the Chu Lai village from communist forces positioned just miles outside the walls. The Marine Corps attempt at counterinsurgency was proving effective, however this small village have been in the firefight time and time again between GVN and Viet Cong troops. Today was a sorrowful time, as the 9 remaining members of the Chu Lai CAP stood at attention to honor their fallen brethren from the events of a preemptive strike from enemy troops.

"Second Lieutenant Timothy Adams!"

The colonel of a nearby post called out as he began the roll call. There was no answer. The colonel repeated the Lieutenant's name twice. Stern faces of battle worn marines fought hard not to betray their grief to the loss of their companions.

"Gunnery Sargent Ulysses Barrow!"

The colonel continued calling the names of the absent platoon members. Finally he came to the last name on the list. He paused, and in a cracking voice he called the last name.

"Captain John Varan!"

He took a breath, and called the name two more times, the last time in a strained and forced voice. The colonel was the person who had assigned Captain Varan to this post due to a previous disagreement the two men had. After the names were called, a solemn Butterfield's Lullaby was played, accompanied by a 3 volley salute. The men at attention saluted the flag. The colonel stood after the ceremony, looking beyond the trees of the Southeast Asia jungle.

"May you find peace above, Captain Varan."

General Jandar kept a watchful vigilance over the many platoons of honorable Marines that "were all alone in Indian Country." He valued the men and the duty they sought to protect and improve the lives of thousands of citizens half a world away from their homes. When the Combined Action Platoon of the Chu Lai village experienced heavy concentrated fire from communist forces, Jandar intervened to save the lives of these men, so they would be able to instruct his forces in Valhalla what it truly means to be a hero. Captain John Varan was a paragon amongst this company of men, willing to take a bullet for a companion in order to assure that his men will eventually return home to their families. His valiant efforts in battle can now be seen in the fronts of Nastralund, against the innumerable hordes of Orcs and Marro that clog the pathways to the provinces beyond the country's borders.

YOU are what makes the C3V possible

C3V is your project too! We need you to playtest the latest C3V creations. This is your chance to see what's in the pipeline, tells us where we've gone wrong, and marvel at what we've done right. You can help shape the future of FanScape ... just sign up now!

The Era of FanScape: Collaboration and Continuity

The era of Fanscape is upon all of us and, working to keep the game continually growing, both C3V and SoV have decided to work together to create a unified, fully compatible repertoire of units, focused on expanding the official game together. What this means is that all concepts going through each group will go through a final review and approval so that every unit is fully compatible with all other units that are in review or development in either group. We want to ensure that all new units from the SoV and C3V are compatible with each other and with all the Heroscape canon. Long live Heroscape!

The C3V has been hard at work getting the next wave ready (which means I actually get to do something ). We're ready to start making some previews/other news releases. LordE and I are in charge of these, but the entire C3V, especially the ERB, have put a lot of time into writing these things. These will probably replace W@HS on some weeks, depending on how often we decide to make a release (that is still in voting last I checked, I don't know how much you follow us).

That is all of course if you're ok with these. It's still your site after all.

Thanks, Chardar, and by extension the entire C3V team.

WOAH!

I just realized that my name is featured in the article.

I guess I should've noticed that because I helped a bit to put it together.

I am not sure how to feel about this project.
If all customs are made of collectable miniatures, are the prices not going to go through the roof, once the complete wave is "released"?
Especially for those coming late to the party, there must be an increased cost to get all miniatures.
Do you guys have a projected cost for a wave of just 1 of each?
With the original stuff, I have collected 3xUnique, 6xCommon. I fear it is going to be both difficult and quite expensive to keep that ratio for my collection. Especially since I will have to make an online order, outside Denmark, this time around (my FLGS actually had quite competitive, if not the best, prices on old Scape).

I've filled a couple different shopping carts on a couple different sites with the following:

2 different packs' worth of heroes.
2 each of 5 different squads.

We'll call that 7 packs. The total comes to under $100, or about $14 a pack. Hardly 'through the roof' pricing so far.

No, but collectable miniatures are usually prices after their popularity (plus rarity). Once a larger group of people start buying specific models I'm pretty sure the price of those items going to rise. So the later a person discovers a C3V expansion, the more expensive it will become.

This has not been the case with Heroclix minis for C3G cards. I don't think this group of nerds, er gamers on this one website is large enough to sway the market.

W O W -- NICE! My collection is up there too, something like that, but I've never taken the time to actually count them all.

I agree with you in principle that IF a bunch of HeroScapers suddenly start bidding on specific HeroClix figures (or any other miniature for that matter) at auction sites like eBay, etc., then it is quite possible that we will see a temporary spike in the price of each one as we (God forbid) bid against each other in the frenzy to acquire them all. It is also possible that a savvy seller who is following these conversations could also jack-up his prices as soon as the announcement is released to the public. Well that's called: Capitalism! You might just wait it out, like I usually do, and hope for a bargain that will someday finish your collecting aspirations, at least you will stay with in your budget and avoid the wrath of your non-gaming significant other. OR, you could pay the Ferry Man what he asks, if you can afford it. OR, if someone has access to a large quanity of the specific items - then they might be nice enough to offer up sets to us beggars at some yet to be determined "reasonable" price. Perhaps someone should start a new message thread here where the HAVES can put the word out to us HAVE-NOTS, and we can begin negotiating trades within the community.

Porkins - that is nice to hear.
But I believe this upcoming type of customs is going to appeal to a larger audience than the comic book stuff. Especially Commons and Un-Commons are going to be sought after in large quantities, compared to previous C3G stuff, I fear.
At the present I am not optimistic about future availability and pricing of individual miniatures. But time will tell eventually, I guess.
