January Releases

Posted January 13th, 2009 at 11:12 AM by NamibianScaper
January's Releases were a little bit boring following the big December release.

Otonashi
Moriko
Johnny 'Shotgun' Sullivan

Some brief Comments .:

Otonashi -
Otonashi was a timely and necessary release. Frequently playing 3 player games with house rules about no duplicate figures (at all) means Isamu is usually in high demand. Now two players can fill up their 10 point gaps.
Otonashi is by far inferior to her 10 point counterpart but she's got a decent sculpt and her nice move helps you get the first strike. We don't have many 'wild' figures yet but I'm sure her play value will go up when we get them. Nice sword.

Moriko -
Hmmmm. Definitely no power creep here. 110 points gets you a cross between Agent Carr(?) and Q9 without range. Her 6 attacks of 1 die can be great against Sentinels of Jandar. No one has tried that yet but I'm sure it will be great. Not to mention...

Dec Release 2 and Our First Year of 'Scape

Posted December 29th, 2008 at 07:38 AM by NamibianScaper

This Christmas Eve we released the Ticalla Jungle and Aquilla's Alliance.

Ticalla Jungle - This is great terrain. I ordered it way back when we were doing quite well on the budget so we got 3 sets. We have been playing on big maps with all of the trees and bushes. These feel much more like part of the battlefield than just decorations like the evergreen trees. It does make me curious what it would be like to play with more of the RttFF trees though. We are enjoying them quite a bit. I just wonder if we'll always use them from now on or still play other maps.

Fyorlag Spiders - I didn't think these guys would be very cool. In fact I think I commented somewhere that 'big bugs' were the most uncreative part of most versions of the fantasy genre. Well, I take it back completely. I have not won much in the last few days but in one of the games I did win, the Spiders were on one side of the map taking out Son's army and Sujoah was on the other side of the...

December Release 1 - Kelda the Kyrie Warrior

Posted December 22nd, 2008 at 08:45 AM by NamibianScaper
December is a special month.

On Christmas we celebrate the incarnation of the eternal Lord. The incarnation means God the Word came to earth in human flesh. "In-Carne" = "in meat" (have you ever ordered chili "con carne" at a Mexican restaurant?). The Lord Jesus born as a baby.

We'll have special releases later this month as part of our Christmas celebration.

For now, we have release part 1 because earlier in the month we celebrate my Wife's birthday. One of her few birthday presents this year was Kelda the Kyrie Warrior.

She couldn't remember but a long time ago she talked about how cool it would be to have a healer figure. I'm the only one who really knows what other figures are out there so this was a surprise:

Kelda the Kyrie Warrior

Our comments - Kelda looks pretty cool. No one has commented on the blue trimmed wings in the picture yet but the fact that the final...

Kyrie Heavy Battle Report

Posted December 21st, 2008 at 01:32 AM by NamibianScaper
Updated December 22nd, 2008 at 08:50 AM by NamibianScaper
Me :
Einar Imperium x 3 420
Raelin rotv 80
Empress Kiova 90
Microcorp Agents x 2 200
Isamu 10
800

Son :
Nilfheim 185
Templar Cavalry x 2 240
Sentinels of Jandar x 2 220
Thorgrim Viking Champion 80
Finn Viking Champion 80
805

Intro.:
This could have been Jandar Kyrie vs. Einar Kyrie but I took Raelin and messed that up. I'm so glad Son wasn't rolling 6 defense for the Sentinels.

Army Construction.:
I like the Einar Imperium... especially with their two cheerleaders Raelin and Empress Kiova. Rolling 5 defense dice TWICE is nice.

Map.:
Wellspring Waterfall again with no glyphs. We have this map built on a duneboard (a piece of pressed wood that can be used to sled down sand dunes) so it is easy to keep assembled and just store in the garage when we're not playing.

He started on the left. I started on the...

Me :
Ulginesh* 150
Chardris 90
Jorhdawn 100
Arkmer 50
Acolarh* 80
Kyntela Gwyn 20
Emirroon 80
Warriors of Ashra x 3 150
Theracus 40
760

Wife :
Shiori* 60
Raelin rotv 80
Crixus 90
Krav Maga Agents 100
Tarn Viking Warriors 50
Nilfheim 185
Finn Viking Champ 80
Airborne Elite 110
755

Wife was sure she'd smash me in this game and I didn't bother arguing any differently. The map was the same as the last couple of reports--A wide map with a road down the middle. The teams start on either end of the road that crosses over a swampy part in the middle. A Wellspring overflowing a cliff into a waterfall sets the backdrop.

She started slowly with the Tarn Viking Warriors. I moved my Firepower Elves up to get quickly in range. As the Vikings were clumping on the step up to the bridge, I let loose the Rain of Flame. Three...
