Image of the Week

This week's image is an oldie, but a goodie. It comes to us courtesy of Heroscaper Talyn. His other fabulous work can be found in the gallery here. Be sure and check it out.

Thread of the Week

This week's thread is one that has stirred up much controversy. So dark you can't see has brought 'scapers together to talk about excessive rules lawyering and what is/is not in the rules. is right when he says "Perhaps some of you are simply over analyzing this stuff."

Every so often, a thread comes along that might at one time have passed without fuss into the trash bin of the Internet. But for some reason, some unknown, bizarre reason, this thread spirals off into pure random hilarity. One such thread is chief's Easter thread. Hide your children, lock down your sanity and plunge into the depths of some of the weirdest weirdness the Internet has to offer.

Blog of the Week

There are many naysayers of polls on this site who think they are a waste of space. Heroscaper Bones has figured out a way to have a poll without bothering those who complain about clogged forums. Blogs. But he does not just ask one question, he asks a bunch of them. Who would you rather...? asks a series of questions about Heroscape, and gives us a great solution to the poll-ution.

Weekly Advice Article
(If you made it here, you are one of the five people who read beyond the picture of the week!)

Drafting

In the game of Heroscape, many would say the game starts before you even place your figures. It starts before you take your seat at the table. It starts before you rush to the bathroom before your first tournament because you think you’ll actually be sitting there for a long time. Heroscape starts when you wake up one morning thinking “I need to buy Heroscape!” In truth, it starts when you plan your army. In some cases, due to a lack of intelligence or lack of will, you will choose to pick your armies, almost randomly, on sight. This is called “drafting.”

Drafting has evolved from early stages of gaming, in which the players would sit down and take turns taking cards. This would be done with papyrus cards in the high priest’s temple, in a time known as the “Pre-Call of Duty Era,” dating back about ten years ago. (AD)

Drafting™ was invented by the ancient Greeks as a fair way to pick land, slaves, and wives. This was the origin of the phrase “I want that one.” (from the Greek term “ἀέῃϊὸῥϋᾧ” translated as “you’re my spunk.”)
  • Have them dealt to you by a dealer.
  • Make a third friend drop the cards from a roof, and try to catch cards in a small wicker basket.
  • Eeny meeny miny mo.
  • Bob for cards.
  • Steel cage match to the death! (Preferred GenCon drafting method)
  • See who can throw the most into a hat.
  • Let your friend pick first, and then shove him out the window, laughing madly as you do. (Not advised for windows first story or below)
  • Point a shotgun at your friend and ask calmly who picks first.
  • Ask Papa-Scape who goes first.
  • Enter a massive war over who gets what cards. (See Civil War)
  • Convince your friend Dund is the only figure he’ll ever need.
  • Make new friends.
Week in Review

I love HeroScape. I really do. I love that it brings people together. I love the sense of community that it creates. Most of all, I love what we can do together as 'scapers. The awesome NESA group has recently received some excellent news, a request to show up at TempleCon. The group's dedication to running fun and frequent Heroscape events has attracted attention outside of our little world. As shown here, the dedication and work of many a 'scaper has changed, and will continue to change, the course of this game.

Love the drafting part--very fun

(The OCD in me, makes me add that if you are looking for more on drafting, but, sadly, serious not funny in nature, check out this thread. Selfish self-plugging alert!)

I think we all do. Keetacongoo is certainly inventive.
I'd like to get a good poll going on here: how many of you think the weekly advice thing is much too long, and would rather have other things?

Cage match over who drafts first.... hey, that makes me want to make a cage match scenario! Just build a big box with castle pieces and send your figures in one at a time. Sweet!

It was only a matter of time before Talyn made the front page... "Vipers Arise" is one of his best, in my opinion. The glow coming up from the water adds a cool effect. Loved the advice section. I have a habit of using the shotgun method...

Thanks for the comments, people. Yes, it was a little long (even thought about 3 paragraphs were edited out, including my favorite method!!!! ) I think EP has a good idea. Just, if you comment after me, say whether you think it was too long or not. I need to work on that. Thanks again!
