The REAL reason for children...

I think I have figured out the reason that people have kids....

Since the American Civil War there has quite rightly been a ban on the use of slaves, and therefore the only ample and legal supply of slave labor is your children.

That is all, carry on...

Ask Papa-'Scape #4

Posted September 10th, 2008 at 04:29 PM by Revdyer
Happy days, boys and girls! As the weather in some places begins to turn cooler it is the very best time of year to be playing HeroScape. It is also a good time to get your favorite General's symbol tattooed to your forehead. Not many people can resist being intimidated when they sit down opposite a player with that kind of dedication, I'll tell you. There's just enough time between now and National HeroScape Day for your to get the tat all healed up before your favorite local tournament or game day. If you are really serious about the game, you can get all six Generals' symbols. No one would ever accuse you of being merely a casual player then.

Now to a few questions that have trickled in. (Remember, you can ask your questions by sending a PM to revdyer on this site.)

Dear Papa-'Scape,

I've built a map that has my opponent's starting zone all liquid lava. We had a big argument about whether he had to roll the d20 at the beginning of the game

The Tower Of The Inquisitor Die Tower

Hey there,
I'm FINALLY done with this darned thing...it's not just ANY dice tower - it has a gearbox and pulley that actuates the dice trapdoor, an axe that beheads a Nikita Agent, and a working chain portcullis.

The body is made of 1/4" thick Basswood, covered in plaster for the purpose of making it look like an adobe building. The paint is a textured sand paint, and although the color isn't what I envisioned, it's pretty decent in person. The knob on the front sits on an acrylic rod that turns a keyed internal gear sprocket that is attached to a pulley which actuates the portcullis, and the rod itself rotates the trapdoor to release the dice into the catchbasin area. The gear also actuates an acrylic piston that raises and lowers the axe to 'chop' the agent's head off. The thought there is that if I sacrifice the chick every time I need some skulls I might get one!

Front view, from above the basin:

The LHC and the End Of The World?? Or not....

Posted September 9th, 2008 at 12:32 AM by SuperflyTNT
Hey there all, you may or may not be aware of the groundbreaking achievement that's taking place tomorrow at 8PM GMT in Geneva Switzerland - the firing of the Large Hadiron Collider, a 14 mile or so underground ring that launches gold atoms at one another at 99.9% the speed of light.

The purpose of this undertaking is essentially to learn more about particle physics, quantum mechanics (for the uninitiated, how the smallest of the small building blocks for all matter interact with one another) and to create the Grand Unified Theory, which reconciles the 4 basic principal forces of nature: Gravity, The Strong and Weak Nuclear Force (what keeps atoms together - from spinning apart), and electromagnetism. At this point there are only theories about how these interact with one another on a subatomic level, and the purpose of this grand undertaking is to observe the collisions and 'see what happens'.

The 'scary-ish' part of this is that interesting and unknown things...

Image of the Week

Karhma's fantastic Wolves of Badru repaints match the dark side of Utgar. The detail on their eyes make these "relentless" creatures even more sinister.

Thread of the Week

As time goes on and more characters are added, Scapers form new tactics that pair those units that are both old and new. There are still bound to be combinations unseen by our eyes that will impact the use of units. Scaper Eckels has made a thread talking about the best ways to utilize the Elf army, which has grown with Wave 8. See his post here.

Event of the Week

The Eastern Pennsylvanians are having a showdown in New Jersey on Saturday, with 30+ attendees. it appears that Scapers are sharing the love, with multiple attendees bringing friends. Check it out in the Events section here.
