Islandscape Preparations - Day 1
Posted May 19th, 2010 at 08:03 PM by kolakoski
Well met!
Grishnak has just announced that Islandscape will be held on July 10th. As usual, it will be run using GenCon Championship rules (armies of 510, with the addition of 90, 110 or 130 points for the finals). At the moment, I am thinking along the lines of the following:
150 Q-10
120 Grimnak
110 Minions
80 Blades x 2
50 Nerak
510
[Before you can ask, I am eschewing Valhalla Society restrictions here. Kaemon, Syvarris, et al., have been fighting for months and deserve some R&R . . . ]
Anyways, I think I've addressed most of the Idiot's Guide criteria with this army. Also, it makes it a natural thing to add Atlaga ar 90 points (and another squad of Minions at 110, which I'll have to borrow from Chas ). At 130 I could take another squad of Blades (borrowed again from my good buddy Chas) and the aforementioned Atlaga. In any event, it is a relatively unique army, and should be a blast to play.

As an uninvited honourary member of the Valhalla Society I am shocked and embarrassed!
That said, good luck, good fighting and I hope your army is well met. |

It does feel wrong, Sylvano, but I've become weary of fielding the same core figures all the time. Even with Q-10, this army is barely competitive. I may, Valhalla help me, replace Q-10/Minions with Q-9/Raelin, if I really want to win. Or I might create an army around Nilfeim . . .
In any event, this is as good a time and place as any to tell you how much I envy your martial arts background and current practice, your family gaming, and the popularity of your well written blog. |

Thank you for your compliments, Kolakoski, they are much appreciated. It’s true, I am lucky. I wish I could remember that all the time.
At my house we talk much of the Valhalla Society, and my daughter is even making T-Shirts. She’s working on a logo with a gun inside a red circle with a red sword overtop. I have always been meaning to ask your permission and patience – the Valhalla Soceity, I think, is yours, and it has been creeping more and more into my thoughts. And writings. Have you read “Another Dead End”? http://www.heroscapers.com/community...ad.php?t=30051 I have never met you, so I imagined what you would look like and put you into my story, unnamed, of course. I hope that's all right... |

Last Samurai StandI am honored, humbled, and, in light of all you have said, possibly more embarassed than you are. It will take me a moment for this to sink in. I had pretty much given up on the Valhalla Society, given the mostly indifferent, and, at worst, outright hostile, response to it in my posts (and blog). Also, I lack many of the core units (Knights, Aubriens, etc.) that would mitigate the lack of variety in the competitive armies I can create.
You, of course, have my blessing to do/write whatever you wish about the Valhalla Society (as long as you remember to bold it ). As to the story, I identify strongly, as the "leader" of the Valhalla Society, given my experience prior to your startling missive, with the "leader" to whom your protagonist was so rudely introduced. [If you have the stomach for it, there are some pictures of me on the Vanderbilt YMCA, Kenshikai Karate website, and some really bad ones on Facebook. ] |

It can be arranged.
They're just in the development stage now. |
