Zombie Island - Boat Mechanism

Posted November 2nd, 2009 at 01:45 PM by kolakoski
Well met!

Just a note to plug the boat mechanism in Zombie Island (see other customizations forum). Seems like an idea with a plethora of applications. As I am creating a map for the Long Island Heroscape League Tournament Series session on 11/8, I shall endeavor to find a way to work this mechanic into it.

Do I Have Anything To Prove?

Posted October 6th, 2009 at 08:34 AM by kolakoski
Well met!

The second day of engagement in the Long Island Heroscapers' Mixed Marvel Tournament Series was yesterday (450 points), and a good time was had by all. Thanks to Grishnak for another fun gameday in Mineola.

Another day of taking candy from babies. My first game was with Grishnak's son, Scott. He fielded a fairly strong army, including Deathreavers and the Krav. The map was the one with road up to towers on the left, with water and a glyph in the center, and a glyph to the far right. I eschewed Marvel and Stompy (see earlier blogs) for this battle, and went with Krav/Raelin/Kozuke/2 x Stingers/Marro Warriors. I was a bit anxious about dealing with the Deathreavers, but, as Scott didn't bring up his Krav until most of the rest of his army was destroyed, . . . The charge of the Kozuke over the mountain on the road was particularly dramatic, and effective, wiping out the Krav.

My second game was with an adult, Jim. This map was Just Passing...

What Was I Thinking?

Well met!

You may have seen the threads I started recently concerning a "Progressive Game" in the Strategy forum, and wondered what they are about and where they are going. For the moment, the answer is nowhere.

It was my intention to an interactive version of my favorite series of articles in the, I believe now defunct, magazine, Fire & Movement - the After-Action Reports. A typical report would contain a move-by-move reconstruction of a game, with commentary by the participants. There were also pictures.

I thought it would be fun, and enlightening, to do a progressive version of this - with each move made, with commentary, by a different member of the community. It has become apparent that what I was attempting, and/or the way I was attempting it, was impractical.

However, that is not to say that something along these lines isn't a good idea. It is just that it should be done by someone who has the terrain/figures...

Long Island Mixed Marvel Tournament Series - 1st Look

Posted September 21st, 2009 at 02:55 PM by kolakoski
Well met!

As many of you know, Grishnak & company's Mixed Marvel Tournament Series (see Event forum) kicked off this past Sunday. I am deeply grateful to them for creating this event, especially since it is so short a journey from my home. A good time was had by all.

I had a good tournament (if I do say so myself). I played 3 games and, due to the double win score achieved in a 3-player game, left with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss.

In my first game, I played a new guy (to me) whose name I think is Rich. The map was Keep Your Enemies Close. My opponent had the classic Captain America/4th army, while I had Cap/Krav/Stingers x 3. We both ignored the glyphs, went to the center and fought for height. I took it, killing his Captain at the cost of my Krav. My moment of triumph was short-lived. 3 whiffs in a row to small attacks from below destroyed my previously untouched hero. After that, his 4th made short work of my Stingers from above.

Tourney Series in Mineola - Sunday Kickoff

Posted September 17th, 2009 at 10:40 AM by kolakoski
Updated October 2nd, 2009 at 11:47 AM by kolakoski (Have only 2 squads of Nagrubs)
Well met!

The long-awaited Long Island Heroscape League's Mixed Marvel tournament series starts Sunday 9/20. For this tournament, players submit a 1500 point pool containing up to 2 Marvel heroes, from which 500-550 points are chosen for each game (500 points for all games on Sunday). After consulting with Dok via our forums (always gives well thought out advice), I have decided on the following pool:

220 Captain America
220 Tor-Kul-Na
180 3 x Stingers
120 3 x Deathreavers
120 Kaemon
110 AE
100 2 x Warriors of Ashra
100 Krav
100 Kozuke
60 2 x Nagrubs
80 Raelin
50 Marro Warriors
30 Eldgrim
10 Isamu
1500

The use of Stingers as my common ranged unit is a departure from my past practice of using some combination of mostly Soldiers (10th & Romans). I have little experience with Stingers, Tor-Kul-Na (& Nagrubs), Captain America, WoA or the Rats (which I won't...
