Wave D3 Week 3, Second Preview: Siege

Posted September 30th, 2010 at 01:42 AM by truth
Updated October 1st, 2010 at 02:29 PM by truth
Siege began like most Warforged with Warforged Resolve, and some other versions of typical Warforged or Juggernaut powers. However we eventually we felt like he needed more mmph. Colby designed a really exciting new mechanic for Evar Scarcarver, and he found a great way to mimic that mechanic in a different way with Siege.

Siege is great at holding an area, or as your last man standing on the battlefield. With his Crag of Steel, he's able to stand his ground and withstand a volley of attacks, but don't get too close. While he may look stoic in that stance, he's able to lash out at all those around him.

He's not a linchpin to build an Army around, but he is a great addition to any Army. Especially those with classic glyphs or an area you need to control on...

Wave D3 Week 3, First Preview: Frost Giant of Morh

Posted September 26th, 2010 at 10:03 AM by truth
Updated September 27th, 2010 at 09:33 PM by truth
At a local tournament yesterday, I revealed the Frost Giant and his Army Card. I'll be back Wednesday for our regularly scheduled preview of Siege!

One thing to note since this is our first "big" figure revealed in this set, is the base. As you see, we've moved backwards from a double space peanut base, to a base reminiscent of Deathwalker 9K from the Rise of the Valkyrie set. All of the big figures in this wave have the larger single base, as opposed to the peanut base. With the D&D figures built around a base that was almost the exact same size as DW9K, and the movement limitations of double spaced figures on a Heroscape board, it didn't make sense to keep forcing figures onto the peanut base when it was bigger than they needed.

When we sat down to design the Frost Giant, the first thing we nailed down was the Dying Swipe ability. It was a really cool power that worked great when interpreted into a Heroscape setting.

Wave D3 Week 2 Preview: Eltahale

Posted September 22nd, 2010 at 12:11 PM by truth
Updated February 24th, 2011 at 03:36 PM by truth (added a link to larger image of army card)
If you’ve been under a rock and missed the first preview, you can check it out here.

Today we’re going to talk about Eltahale, Jandar’s newest Hero.

When we start discussing a new wave, we bounce ideas on certain figures we’d like to see back and forth with Peter Lee, the designer we work with at WotC. When Pete initially presented his vision for D3, there were some really exciting sculpts, but also some that the 3 of us really didn’t care for. There were too many bad guys to begin with. We could have forced some units into the allied generals to give the wave a sense of balance, but we had some different ideas.

Over the next few days, Pete introduced to 3 brand new figures that we could add to this wave. They were previously sculpted, but were never released. The best part was, they fit perfectly into the design ideas that we were discussing....

Soundwarp is back and better than ever with his epic mods! This time a Gorillinator falls victim to his cursed (blessed) x-acto knife. Even though we shouldn't have to, we will still provide a link to his thread.

National Heroscape Day Exclusive Preview!

Had you going didn’t I? Actually this is the custom of the week. This unit might not be official, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t deserve to be. Gencon Champion and Fuzzy little teddy bear Dok has beyond proven that he knows how to play the Zombies with his excellent Unit Strategy Review. So it only makes sense that his custom would be equally impressive. The Zombie Hulk is based on a custom by Good Pig and gives some much needed muscle to the Zombies,...
