If I Ran Heroscape, I Would...

In the name of sheer narcissism, I've decided to collect some of the ideas I've shared in the various WotC feedback threads and post them here. I actually put some thought into these ideas and sincerely believe they have merit in their own right- not because they're mine or anything. Really!

Tell you what: read the first one and if you don't like it you can dismiss me as being a totally self-absorbed, incompetent loony.

Here's what I would do for the next Master Set:

For the third master set, I think WotC would positively crush all previous $ale$ numbers if they pulled off a successful modular "Cityscape" model. Imagine several 4-sided buildings with hinges in the corners so you had the option of making them several sizes. The base would be shaped similar to the RotV ruins. You could even attach several of them together to make larger buildings, or stack the smaller ones on the bigger ones to make multi-story exterior-only buildings. You could straighten them out to make one long main street. Some may have built-on ladders (fire escapes) or front stoops for elevation.

For smaller LOS-blockers, a few simple scaled phone booths, hot dog stands, newspaper/magazine kiosks, even a RotV ruin-shaped fence that units could see through but had to walk around or destroy.

You wouldn't need too many actual tiles after that. The modular city will sell itself and keep us addicts coming back to create our metropolises. Maybe a few more of the asphalt and concrete from Marvel as 24-hexers, a practical amount of road, and a little grass. Just enough for the buildings to spread out on.

As for figures, I think I'm with the majority here who loved the wide variety of historical, modern, fantasy, and Sci-Fi from the RotV set. Around 15 figures, all unique, one or two Large or Huge, most of whom fit with existing armies, but some of whom open up new chapters in the saga.

Edit: RotV gave us grey OM's for Vydar. Marvel gave us blue for Jandar. SotM gave us green for Ullar. I'd love a set of black OM's with this one.
I'm awfully keen on that idea. Ok here's one for you Marvel fans:

My 2c:

I'm with the majority who realize that selling unique heroes in blister packs probabaly won't make it profitable.

So my idea (or maybe someone has already said this) is to release another TCB-sized box with 5 X-men and 5 mutant villains along with brick-textured castle-set pieces and some extra road. Charge $20-$25 for it. The muties are more popular as a group, and you've already tipped your hand by putting spidey, cap, iron man and hulk in the first set. I think this would sell to new players and your gamer folks.
Then there's this silly desert terrain pack idea. Yes, I know we're running out of terrain types. This could work but only if you did it just right. Here's how I would do it:

Quote:
I don't have a problem with the terrain expansions, or the lack of terrain-specific figures, or the fact that it's desert.

I have a problem with it because it doesn't add anything to the game, and it doesn't actually look good.

Instead imagine:

For $20 you get a set of modular "rock" that works like the battlements from FotA only stackable. They fit into a modular base so they're steady and they can be capped either with a solid rock piece that you can't put figures on, or with a normal hex tile, your choice based on the kind of map you want to create. You could shape it any way you wanted on top of any kind of tile you wanted (except the liquid tiles of course), and make it as tall as you want. If it included some way to structurally support the tall ones internally (like the ladders can support tall-stacked normal terrain), that would be even better. You could make them incredibly tall for a "mesa" effect, or set up a maze of them with water inside for "canyon" effect, or even build a "mountain path" up the side's and have a vertical map.

Now that is something I'd pay $20 for. Repainted glaciers? Please.
There's also been a great many threads about new general-specific units like the Flagbearers. Again, you'd have to plan it carefully, but I'd love this:

I think it'd be better if they released general-specific Artillery units in the same way they released the Flagbearers. Thing is, this time, there's two to a pack and they're a Common Squad. The basic rules would be the same for all of them: revealing an OM for a unit adjacent to them would allow you to take a turn with the Artillery instead. You move it up to its Move and then put those characters back down next to it. It can then fire some kind of devastating attack. It would also serve as a mobile LOS-blocker (thanks PGS!) and have some kind of Tough ability like the Castle Door.
Ok that last one I've never actually written down before but I wanted to stick to the format here. One final idea. If you're like me, you were really looking forward to Ticalla's Jungle. I was expecting a major change to the way I play Heroscape. And as great as TJ is, I was a little let down by the scope of the Jungle tree rules. So while we may not see this kind of sweeping change until another Master Set, I would add this rule to the next version of Heroscape (or a clearer, more concise version thereof):

Quote:
If a figure next to a terrain object or elevation of tiles whose height is more than half the Height value of the figure is attacked by a another non-adjacent figure, the defending figure receives one additional defense die.
So basically just extending the Jungle terrain rules to all terrain objects and even elevated tiles. Yes, I think I may make that my own House Rule.

So, what would you do if you were in charge of Heroscape?

What would I do? Well I think first and foremost I would file a restraining order against you

I think I would institute one of the ideas I have mentioned a bunch of times regarding having mail away figures.

i would make a lot more terrain specific army cards. have living sand people from the planet desertia. or golems from some mythological planet. or stop making threads with hypothetical questions (just kidding)

If I ran Heroscape, the next wave would include ranged Vikings (longbows, perhaps), a squad of Dreadguls (make them common), and a squad of gladiators. We'd have some additions to Aquilla's army, of course, and maybe a skeleton unit of some sort.

The master set would be terrain-heavy, and include trees and road tiles. (I think RevDyer suggested that).

I'd make Elffy and Bistro change their names, and I'd take away all of Onacara's rep and make him start over (just for fun).

If I ran Heroscape, the next expansion set would be a GI Joe vs Cobra set (Rocky mountain type boulders similar to the trees). It would include Cobra Commander (similar powers to the Red Skull), a Snake eyes, Destro, Scarlett, Duke, Gung Ho, Sgt. Slaughter, Lady Jane, the Baroness, Zartan, Major Bludd and Storm Shadow. Maybe a few Cobra BATS or Crimson Guards.

I agree with others that terrain specific powers would be cool. Including terrain back in the small expansion sets would also be a good idea. Heck, why don't they sell terrain separately anyway? I'd buy more road, and many more large grass pieces.

I would also reissue past figures that were repainted and stick them in with new waves. I would put a stop to the figures put out showing powers like Chardris. What a cool figure, but do we have to show his power? He would look better without the ball of flame in his hand... that's all I'm saying.
