Matters of the Heart

I'll take my chances babe I'll risk it all. I'll win your heart or I'll take the fall.

For those of you that have been keeping up with my senior year exploits, y'all know that I've had my eye on this girl for a while. It's been rough going for a while, I'll be honest with you. I've asked her out twice on formal dates, and gotten an excuse both times a couple of hours before the date. Both excuses seemed plausible, and she really seemed disappointed that she couldn't make it. I've asked her to other less formal spur of the moments things as well, but she's always busy. What really makes this hard is that I know she really does have all of this stuff that she has to do, so I can't tell if she's brushing me off or if these are legit excuses.
I'm asking her to go to Taco Bell for that free taco (Muchas gracias Pagan!) tomorrow. I have a good feeling that she'll say yes. One of my strengths is my optimism. I'm also very persistent, and I worry that I'm annoying her sometimes. I give her plenty of space though, so I don't think I am.
Her birthday is this week, and I got her a present, a copy of To Kill a Mockingbird, her favorite book. She's a huge LSU fan, so I've been cutting LSU articles out of the sports pages for weeks now to wrap the present. I'm going to give it to her Wednesday, so hopefully that goes over well.
I usually tell all of this to Aldin, who has been a great help and encouragement to me. Aldin hasn't been on in a while though, so I thought I'd update y'all. I've been getting through the hard times with sappy love songs. You'll Accompany Me has become a favorite, along with You're My Home by Billy Joel. Basically everything by Seger and Joel. I love those guys. Great music.

Good Luck! I hope she likes your gift. It seems very thoughtful.

Maybe she's just scared, like you are?
Perhaps the official dates were too intimidating? Maybe just some more relaxed, low pressure activities would be more successful. The jump from friends to dating is a big one, it might be better if it can happen naturally and in its own time. The big secret of course is that friendship is the basis of all relationships - so if you invest and build the friendship you will reap rewards no matter what. But if you jump to "dating" it might not succeed if the friendship is not developed enough. |
