Who are you? Shawn O’Bryan



Who, or what, is your avatar and how did you come up with your username? I had just finished reading a Hitchhiker to the Galaxy Book (I think it was #2) and chose a character from it. And then went looking for a two-headed image, to represent that character.

Age: 39

Occupation? Security Audit for a major Financial Firm

Allegiance and why? Einar. Samurai, enough said

When did you get into HeroScape and why? Spring 2006 about the time when Mage Knight was ending, I saw Heroscape Customs using the Mage Knight figures I owned on ebay, and did some net surfing to see if I could find more. I then found the old Heroscape HQ and finally this site. I immediately went out to Toys R Us and bought a RoTV and have been hooked ever since.

Favorite aspect of HeroScape and why? The Custom-ability of it. Not only is this a simple game, but there is so much potential to take figures from other games and make them your own Scape Units. I started to get into the game for Customs, and 200+ Customs printed from this site later I’m still deeply involved in the Custom arena.

Favorite Unique Hero and why? Kaemon Awa. again a Samurai, but this figure when he came out, became my all time favorite. And many games I’ve played with him where his Quick Release has turned a game in my favor.

Favorite Uncommon Hero and why? Fen Hydra. Always wanted a Hydra in this game, and I had a couple of customs to represent them on my table…but when this was released…it made those obsolete and became and awesome figure in any Army.

Favorite Common Hero and why? Black Wyrmling. These guys are so awesome and can really lay the smack down on your opponents heroes when used correctly.

Favorite Unique Squad and why? Krav Maga Agents. They came in the original set, and have never been surpassed as the dominant Unique Squad in my opinion. Hard to kill at range and has enough range to stay far away from deadly melee units.

Favorite Common Squad and why? Wow, so many to choose from. My top two are the Warforged Soldiers and the Aubrien Archers. Tough choice, but I think I’ll choose the Aubriens. On a good day, Frenzy can be a game changer and I’ve always been partial to Elves.

Favorite Custom Unit and why? Well, I’d cay C3V’s Marro Gnids are vastly becoming #1…but I can’t tell you too much about them…so I’ll pick my all time favorite from this site and that is Just John’s Sisters of the Sai. The mechanic of having a dual sided card, that you can flip from an Attack to a Defensive personality and vice versa is just too much fun. I highly recommend them. I had three Electra figures lying around that I use for these gals and they are always at the top of my list for casual games.







Favorite Special Ability and why? Tactical Switch. The Warforged ability to change your opponent’s tactics by switching figure placement is ideal. I love when these guys take away height advantage and then use that advantage to destroy an opponent’s figure.

Favorite Map and why? Nadi’s Bonded Spirit. It’s just beautiful. The way the is a large mountain that has a river that cascades down into a large pool is just majestic. I’ve built this map 4 times, and it is the only one I’ve built that many times, since I’m always trying out new maps from this site.

Mass or Stingers? 4th Mass. They just have the best ability to dominate a game.

Anything you'd change about the game - a unit, rule, or mechanic? Yes, the same as most people have Tough effect all attacks.

What do you enjoy most about Heroscapers.com? The Community itself. I am on here so much, that I feel I have friends out there I’ve never met. I’ve never been on a Forum like this one, where most everyone is kind and considerate to each other.

Favorite HeroScape moment: My friends and I were playing an Epic 6-man game on a huge map that filled an entire dining room table. 3 vs 3 (250 pts each) and I drafted the Aubriens. Well our side was not doing well until one round where I Frenzied 4 times during turn #1, 5 times during turn#2, and 3 times on turn #3. Needless to say our opponent’s Armies were wiped out by the end of the round. It was awesome!

Another board game you enjoy and why?
Settlers of Catan. Each game can be unique and I like micro managing my resources.

Three true things and one lie about yourself:
1. I have helped shovel coal on a steam Engine.
2. I have visited all 50 states in my lifetime.
3. I’ve been in a vehicle that was charged by a Rhino.
4. My 3 yr. old son lives in another country.

Other interests? Movies and books. I read on average two to three books a week and watch two to three movies per week as well.


Five Fun Favorites

Favorite TV Show: Any Crime Drama, but I’ll say Hawaii 5-O. I love the old one when I was a kid and the new one is even more fun to watch.

Favorite Movie Of All Time: Empire Strike Back. Best Star Wars movie hands down.

Favorite book: The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandan Sanderson. It’s not a book but a trilogy but to choose one would in my opinion diminish the other two.

Favorite sport: Football

Favorite food: Steak and Potatoes

How did you obtain your title? After I finished in the top four two year in a row, in Lord Raidor's Heroscapers Tournament...so he offered me a title. I decided that I'm like the Michigan State Spartans who make it to the Final Four in Basketball year after year...thus my title: "Spartans of HS Tourneys". Kinda Corny, but it's best I could come up with.

So for those that still don't know, what is the purpose of the Soldiers of Vahalla? The purpose of the SoV to find the best of the best Custom Units to fit into the Heroscape canon to be played with Official Scape figures at events. This concept was based off the BoV which looks for the best competitive maps. We do rigorous testing to see if a Unit fits into the game, without being broken. With the partnership with the C3V, we maintain that SoV and C3V units can work together as well, and test them against each other.

Any custom goodies you would like to give us Heroscapers that's not yet mentioned on this site publicly? (One large slip shouldn't hurt. )
Well you've seen Zaeus' Basic stats, so how about one of his Special Abilities:
How would you convince more people to play Curse of Ne-Gok-Sa (CoN)? It’s for anyone who’s played a Role-playing game, or been in a play, or like Mysteries, or just want to have fun. CoN is like playing a character in a Heroscape game of Who Done IT? You use clues either provided by others “Special Abilities” of by diagnosing dialogue in the game to ferret out the opposition and vote them out like on Survivor. Also fans of Survivor may like this too. Seriously, try it once and you’ll be hooked for a while.

Any Heroscapers member you'd really like to play against? Again, so many to chose from. But I think it would be cool to play against Killercactus and witness first hand how he plays the Vipers or Runa.

What message do you have for the community? As long as we are here, Heroscape will not die. Stay strong in your conviction and dedication to this game and it will continue. The game will never stale, because of dedicated, imaginative members that continue to come up with ways to freshen up our game. Whether we try to break new ground with Custom projects like the C3V, SoV, C3G, CUC, the Legend System, the CHCG24; or we come up with new ways to play using Scenarios, game parameters and so forth. And I say embrace the multitude of the ideas on Scapers, so the game can continue to grow regardless of Hasbro or WotC.
