Scaper of the Week Interview #70
We recognize him first by his dragon avatar. Second, we see his unique username. Third, we realize it's not Aldin.
A good guy, he helps R˙chean organize GenCon, and orient high schools students in the ways of "mathematics." Say hello to:
-Scaper of the Week #70 -
damja

Who are you?
No answer provided.
Who, or what, is your avatar and how did you come up with your username?
My avatar is the original oil painting done by my tattoo artist to mock up my chest panel and sleeve. My username is actually a bastardization of the handle "Damaja" (damager). I've used it as a handle forever and just stuck with it here.
Age: 34
Occupation? Teacher (HS Math)
Allegiance and why? Vydar. Cool flavor and some of the best units in the game.
When did you get into HeroScape and why? Christmas 2004. I saw a big box with a dragon on it. I went back and looked at it for about 3 days straight until my wife told me just to buy it.
Favorite aspect of HeroScape and why?
Building armies for tournaments and game days. It allows me to flex my creative muscle and makes me think about units I want to play and build around.
Favorite Unique Hero and why?
Raelin 1.0 - she fits into any build and makes it better.
Favorite Uncommon Hero and why?
Fen Hydra. Rolling lots of dice is fun.
Favorite Common Hero and why
Swog Rider. Buffing Arrow gruts is awesome. Buffing them multiple times is exponentially awesome.
Favorite Unique Squad and why?
Krav Maga Agents - stealth dodge.
Favorite Common Squad and why?
Aubrien Archers - I'm a sucker for some ranged frenzy.
Favorite Custom Unit and why?
I don't like customs in general, but Zombie Hulk seems cool.
Favorite Special Ability and why?
Scatter - it's so versatile allowing you to control most of the action in the game.
Favorite Map and why?
Ember Canyon Road. It packs a lot of punch for a small map. Visually it is awesome. It makes me think of every ambush scene I've seen where one side of the fight is hiding in on top of the canyon ready to blast away at the unlucky suckers walking through. In terms of gameplay, there are several different paths you can take to get to your opponent depending on your army and how much risk you are willing to take.
Othkurik or Moltenclaw?
Moltenclaw.
Anything you'd change about the game - a unit, rule, or mechanic?
I would like to see terrain-based abilities for rock, sand, and grass.
What do you enjoy most about Heroscapers.com? The community is the best I've been part of on the internet. Everyone here (with a few exceptions) just enjoys the game - no elitist jerk attitude.
Favorite HeroScape moment:
I remember a gameday where four local players and I we Scaping. We may have been testing for a tournament or something. I had a full health Q9 defending against a squad of pumped up stingers with height. The first two attacks of 5 put 3 wounds on the major and the fifth attack was all skulls. My opponent let out a triumphant OHHHHHH!!!!! When I rolled for defense it was all sheilds and everyone else, in unison, all yelled OOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!! I then used Quiglix Gun for the next few turns and pecked away at the rest of the stingers.
Another board game you enjoy and why?
Battlestar Gallactica - Best. Game. Ever.
Three true things and one lie about yourself:
1. My current wife was a guest at my first wedding.
2. I teach AP Statistics.
3. I have two pug dogs - one fawn and one black.
4. I love eating outside.
Other interests? M:tG, games in general, baseball, football.
Five Fun Favorites
Favorite TV Show: Dexter
Favorite Movie Of All Time: Spaceballs
Favorite book: Favorite series is Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. I think Brandon Sanderson has done a phenomenal job since RJ passed away.
Favorite sport:
Football - the american kind.
Favorite food: sushi
How was GenCon 2011?
The best four days in gaming!!!
How long have you been hosting tournaments? What convinced you to start?
I've been hosting tournaments for about 5 years. I started because I needed people to play with and figured a good way to find them was to organize a tourney. I kept doing it because I enjoy organizing events.
How was Byzantine Cave?
Which one was that again? I've played in a lot of CoNs and for me they blend together a lot. My favorite games of CoN have been the Keeps I've been in though.
Any Heroscapers member you'd really like to play against?
I've never played against dok even though I've roomed with him for the past two GenCons. He would destroy me as I'm not as competitive about the game as I used to be, but I would have fun. I would probably use DW7000 and Einar Imperium - I hear there's a really great strategy for using them together.
What message do you have for the community?
I hope life isn't a big joke, because I don't get it. ~Jack Handey
What Units would you like to see in the next Unit Debate?
No answer provided.
Who do you pick for the next 'Scaper of the Week? Dysole

This is one of the funniest things around. But I choose #3 about the dogs is the lie. I have no reasoning. But I figure I'll try #3 until someone tells me it's the lie ![]() |

I haven't met you, but thanks for being part of our community! Battlestar Galactica is great fun, and I've just bought Yggdrasil, the cooperative game on Norse Mythology.

Thanks guys
By the way, #4 is a lie. I have known my wife for over 30 years and our families are very close. I teach AP Statistics, in fact started the program at my school. True about the dogs. I absolutely loathe eating outside. The main reason being I love Frank's Red Hot - I put that **** on everything! ![]() |

See, I thought you just didn't like eating outside in downtown Indianapolis. Which would make sense.
