I've studied a lot to be able to get into the minds of people. I do this for a couple reasons, mostly because i like to know what people are thinking so I can further my own career as a magician.

I use this a lot in everyday situations, and I think Mentalscaping is a great thing to use when playing certain units.

Quite possibly my favorite part of Heroscape[tournament wise] is the fact that you get to personally interact with other people, and can throw them off their game by doing certain things.

Fear Factor
is a thing that many Unit's have in this game that make all this possible. Along with the Order markers.

Unit's such as Shades, and Ne-Gok-Sa have very obvious abilities that will change your opponents plan for moving unique units, and can cause opponents to be thrown off their game.

Unit's like the Minions also have this ability to a lesser scale. This is the reason why I feel tournament playing is so much fun, and why everyone playing the same type of good unit makes me sad. Most people I could guess don't go into the game to throw the opponent off their game. I do! I enjoy watching people have to change their plan to something completely different because of my efforts.

Most of this is the reason why the X order marker is so important is because it is meant to throw an opponent off their game, or try to make them worry about what unit(s) they are going to be facing next.

Scape is so much more than just a board game because of this, and goes into the realm of much more.

The reason I play such underused and fun unit's is because they have a bigger fear factor usually, and to me it makes a better mental game and game in general.I could care less about winning every game and would rather enjoy watching a person react and winning based on how I play my team. Or how me playing my team well, and how I used this mental way of scaping effected the outcome of an the game.

I wanted to post how i play my game just to give incite on why I play the unit's that I do.

People can mentalscape and still use good units. K-boom has been known to count spaces with his fingers from his Major Q9 during his opponent's turn (when they get that bored glaze like they're thinking really deeply but they aren't)... when the only Order Marker on Q9 is his X!

I agree that atypical armies can mess with an opponent's way of thinking- I think part of the reason I struggle with Knights in tournaments is because I usually don't practice against that many pure melee armies in playtesting before tourneys.

It's true, I never really thought about it before, but I shudder when I see Krug. The psych-out element is something I'll need to consider next time I play. Good read. Thanks!

Completely true, but lesser used unit's tend to have a bigger effect thanks to their abilities.
Dead Eye Dan for example, can be very scary to an opponent when the X is on him.[Even though I personally hate him, he can still use that to his advantage.]

I do this sometimes. It's funny to watch their reactions. Also, by ignoring their actions while counting those spaces, you make them think you think their strategy is unimportant, therefore pressurizing them into risky strategy.

Reverse Psychology is so fun in Heroscape.
