In an effort to keep some weird army v. player distinction, I went back through all of my old battle reports and tallied up my wins and losses. With a total of 113 tournament games, I have a record of 82-31, but I wanted to see how I did with certain units as well as against certain units.
The underlined part in any category marks where my record goes past the breaking point of 72%, which is my record against everything. When looking at the armies that I've played, units below the underline have performed less well. Units below the line in my opponent's data, these are units that have done above average against me.
This may say more about my own personal preferences in army selection and weaknesses, but I found it interesting.
Playing Style/Nemesis Data!
The first block of stuff is just my records using each different unit. I'm not all that adventurous when it comes to army construction. My worst outing (2-3) was with a GenCon 2006 ripoff with extra Swog riders. I did worse with the Orcs than I have with anything else. I separated the Heat of Battle stuff, as it might give people a false impression of some units. I marked them with an asterisk. I also double-asterisked the units that I only played in the Nebraska Skirmish, which gave melee-only armies 70 extra points.

This next section is my record against different units. I broke them up into three different groups- 3 or more appearances, 2 appearances, and just one appearance. If I ever faced single commons, I included those numbers that include those results in parentheses. For example: Deathreavers: 7-3 (8-4) means that I've won seven times and lost thrice to people who played 2 or more squads of Deathreavers, and won once and lost once against people playing just one squad of them. People seem to select for relative power based on spider_poison's rankings, or at least their own understanding of similar decisions in army-building, but I seem to do much worse against 4th Mass, and Knights than anything else.

Great Blog, this really makes me think about the armies I have played and what i do horrible against.
I tend not to play as serious armies as you do.[An example of at my tournament I played 10 squads of zombies] But I do like to condsider myself an experienced player. My Nemesis is Ollie, and my Nemesis unit are the Minions. After 5 games against them I still can't win a serious game against them. |

Yeah, maybe I should have included player stuff too.
Of the people I've played more than once in tournaments, gibberish_47 and lonewolf both seem to have my number, as I'm 0-2 against both of them. I often seem to get lucky against Codeman, who I'm now 3-0 against. I'm also 1-1 against matrixrenegade, Supergeek, and jdtenor in tournament play. I faced spider_poison for my first time in a tournament this last weekend, squeaking out a 200 point victory. Outside of tournaments against each other, I've gone 4-3. If you include a team game that we played at one game day in WI, it's 4-4. Most of the games have been rather close. His dice sucked this last week. I'm probably pretty close to 50/50 against KaboomboomBoom and Worldturtle, who rarely frequent the boards. We've never kept track or faced each other in tournaments. |

Interesting stuff. I'll try and run something similar for my armies. It will most likely be just what I've used though---my records/memory are probably not up to the job of getting my opponents' data.
I'm someone's nemesis.  On current data, my nemesis seems to be Bengi (I'm now 0-2 against him). There are plenty of nemeses-in-waiting against whom I'm 0-1 as well. |

No great surprises: Venom, Rats, Airborne Elite, Krav Maga Agents, Major Q9, Braxas and Isamu are all widely regarded as competitive. Lower down the list are another couple of units that I've used more than once: Minions and the Tarn Vikings. I think they're lower for different reasons. In the Minions' case, I think it's more to do with relatively unsuccessful experiments with Taelord and Runa along with coming out on the wrong side of two of the closest games I've ever played at the Beatdown. The Tarns are more deservedly low I suspect: a less competitive unit that has been one of my favourites ever since I got my first RotV (though they also suffered in those close Beatdown games). In between these extremes the Stingers and James Murphy are my other multiple-tournament units. They're sitting pretty much exactly on my overall win rate of 75%. |

Cool. Thanks for sharing. Hidden in my 0-7 record against Knights is a similar story. 4 of those losses came against 4th Mass/Knights combos (and 3 of those came the same day when I played a weird Arrow Grut army with 6x Swog Riders); 1 came in a game when I killed 7 out of the 8 Knights my opponent had on my second turn, only to get my whole army wasted by Q9; the other two were legitimate losses to mostly Knight armies, one of which was extremely close against matrixrenegade.

I've been adding to this thing every time I go to a tournament.
Just thought I'd point out that I finally beat an army with Sir Gilbert in it this weekend. The 4th Mass are now the only army card that I've never beaten which I've faced 4 or more times. I'm 0-5 against them. However, I've seen Brunak and a host of other figures more times than the 4th, so they're not as overplayed as some forum readers might have you believe, at least in my experience. That's just over 5% of my 97 games! (let's not count the 16 times I've had them  ) |

Fun fact: I've now played against Marvel figures in tournaments more than I've played against the 4th Mass. (And that's a good thing too, if you check my records)!

I guess this hasn't gotten an update in a while, as I know you beat 4th Mass at least twice in General Wars.
I should try to put together my record against various figures, as well. I have records of every army I've faced except two. |
