Wickedness

Posted November 2nd, 2010 at 01:44 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
This is about two things: Halloween, and the day after Halloween. Which one was more wicked?

Part one: Halloween

I have to say I had a really great Halloween. It’s a great event but when you get older you sort of lose track of that. But I’m lucky - I am experiencing it anew through my three year old.

He finds it baffling. He dressed as a monster (it’s a small green monster costume- very cute on him, and rather fitting seeing as he is a bit of a monster) and we went to stranger’s houses and they gave us candy. It’s all the things he’s not supposed to do and he knows it.
Last year it terrified him. This year he missed his nap in all the anticipation and then was a monster basket case by the time it got dark. I pulled him around on a wagon for a while, kept him going with a steady IV of potatoes chips and then we went home.

My daughter and eldest son went as the Majere twins. My daughter had this beautiful staff with a carved fox head and a rather dashing red hooded cape. She wore a belt with all sorts of bags and potions on it. She stopped every so often and coughed miserably. My eldest son carried a sword and wore a tunic and then mostly a coat because it was cold. I thought it was a great idea but no one knew who they were. (didn’t matter, they still enjoyed it)

My nine year old went as this creepy thing- we covered his face in black cloth. He looked kind of like a wraith- he’s very thin, was dressed all in black and was wearing claw like hands as an accessories. He looked scary but he couldn’t see anything and we had to escort him around like he was blind.
It was like a peek behind the scenes at a scary monster’s house- the monsters can’t see well, they get cold and their feet hurt. But we never see that part- only the terrifying part.

My three year old had asked me to dress as a monster too, but I kinda ran out of time for such things. I ended up buying a hat at the dollar store and wearing that. It had two huge demon horns on it- it made great shadows. I waited in the driveway of the houses as my gang trick or treated and just smiled my biggest evilest smile. The horns made me about seven feet tall, and I’m a little creepy to begin with. People stared. Little girls screamed, and a little white poodle ran away in terror. Sometimes having an ugly mug really pays. It was the wickedest fun I’ve had in a long, long time.

Part Two: The Day after Halloween

I arrived at work and was meant by the glum faces of coworkers. They took me aside and told me that I was losing my job. Again. Remember last week when I was losing my job and it was all a mistake? Well, that really was a mistake, and now this is for real. One day next week another person is coming to replace me. Wicked Surprise!

After so many ups and downs with this stupid job business I just kind of took it in stride. What else can they throw at me?

I'm learning to live more day by day. I wore horns, my kids had a blast and we lived to tell the tale! It doesn't get any better than this!

Are those idiots you work for serious? You should leave willingly if they are going to throw all this crap at you. You could take up fiction writing!

Actually, you should. Another great blog Sylvano, but also slightly depressing. Remember the fiction writing part. It's always an option.

Sounds like a Happy Halloween. Not so much the next day though... sadly.

Oh, that comment makes sense now. Sorry to hear that, Sylvano. Hope things turn up soon.

Don't stop blogging (or believing, but mostly blogging), though, and I agree with Shockma that fiction writing is a good option.

I wonder if anyone has Scape Costume Parties for Halloween?

Actually, according to Celtic tradition, its the time when the borders between the worlds are thinnest, and we can communicate between them. So you might draw some strength from your forebears, who endured in their time.

I believe that once you are away from that job, and those ups and downs that you and your family will thrive.

Stay strong, let your family be the strength that you need and stay 'scaping.
