TotalCon: units I used.

I played in four tournaments at TotalCon last weekend. That should have meant eight or ten new units without too much effort, but I ended up with only five new ones.
For the championship, I put this project to one side and fielded what I thought was the most competitive army (that I wanted to play). No new units: Glads x3, Blasts x2, Raelin (RotV) and Isamu. It did the job---I went 4-0 and won---but the scoreline hides two ridiculously close games, both decided by 10pt margins. For the first, against Bengi, I can make a case I was better placed when time was called (I had about a squad each of glads and blasts and Isamu against a Feral Troll and a smattering of glads/blasts). For the other, against Kildawabit, there's no such case. I was outplayed and it came down to my Isamu against seven Romans, starting with three useless order markers on the blasts (I'd been banking rather heavily on winning initiative and some last-gasp running-and-gunning). Isamu did his once-every-hundred-games magic.
Above Cursed Lands was the next event and I fielded all new units. Only two cards though: Sentinels x3 and Raelin (SotM). I used all my luck in the first game against Mombo. Some ridiculous dice-rolling meant I took Nilfheim down in a single order marker and the Raelin-backed Sentinels didn't let a single attack through. Filled with confidence in my invincible Sentinels I went into the rest of the event. There was Braxas. Twice. I ended 1-3.
Next, the Super Showdown (Marvel allowed). I misread the metagame here. At 450pts I don't think the 300+ supers are really a very strong choice. A classic army full of cheap multiple common squads should tear them apart, and so that's what I expected to see. However, I wanted to play a big guy so I went Silver Surfer, Kelda and Marro Warriors figuring that this combination could slowly but reliably pick apart such a common horde. No such luck---I think every game was against another big superhero or a big classic hero. Each game could have swung either way with two big guys slugging it out and not much chance for some Kelda finesse. 2-2 for me.
Finally it was War of the Worlds. I hadn't used Agent Carr yet (all that is keeping me from completing RotV) but I didnt use him here either. Why? I had an overwhelming urge to use one of my favourite units: the Anubians. I went Anubians x5 and Khosumet. A lot of the reason they don't see more action is, I think, D20 distrust. They're too variable. I figured with five squads and Khosumet I should be able to ride out the bad rolls and capitalise on the good. The first game, against TomCollins, indicated another weakness: they're a three-figure melee squad. He had a bunch of 4th Mass (it was like we'd got a bunch of the militia and wolves boosters and split them ) and took height and wait-then-fired me clinically as I tried to approach. A nice ilustration of Dok's undulating-maps-help-range theory: because of the terrain I couldn't be in a position to attack without first spending a turn in the firing zone. However, after that lesson in why the wolves are not an elite army by themselves (I think they could be with some ranged support) I got some more favourable match-ups and had three really close games, each of which I edged. Special mention to LittleNYYS; we had a great game that came down to a wounded Khosumet against a handful of nagrubs---he's already a very competent player and it wont be long before we see his name on a trophy I reckon (well, assuming we start putting names on trophies). So 3-1 for this event and 10-6 overall.
New units used: Silver Surfer, Raelin (SotM), Sentinels, Anubian Wolves and Khosumet. None that particularly advance the intermediate goals I'd set, but whatever. This project was never supposed to stop me playing units just because I wanted to.
Here are the new tables. 69 down, 105 to go (plus D1 and D2 and...). I've sorted the main table by number of losses for a change. I thought it'd show who I turn to in a pinch.
