Ideally we'd settle on a mini that was the less than $1/pc and have a cheaper proxy option available.

2. Price - I got two in a pack with other street items for a dollar
3. Appearance - mine looks good, but it doesn't have the symbol on it

My primary concern is how much effort would be needed to make them. The closer to zero the better.

Use bottlecaps as proxies. Or a couple Lego blocks stacked on top of each other.

Mine does take a little effort but is dead easy.

All you need is a bit of drip irrigation pipe, like this:

Some flat plastic (I used the wall of an ice cream tub).
Cut the pipe into 22mm lengths.
For every barrel you make cut 2 circles out of the flat plastic so that there is a slight lip. (I used a divider to score the plastic & then trimmed with a knife)
Glue the circles to the both ends of the pipe.
Paint.
Print symbols out & stick to barrels.
