Writing Update #5 - March

TGRF's Writing Updates - March

It's been a bit of a busy month, and while my writing endeavors took a backseat a few times, they are still there, making progress slowly. So it's time to update you on where we're at.

Fan Fiction
There is sadly no fan fiction planned at this time. The DoD sequel is still there, but I have chosen to remain focused on my novels rather than divert attention to it.

So for now, there is still no fan fiction on the way. That may change with the possible revival of HeroScape and hopefully renewed interest in the fan fiction competition - time will tell.

Novels
Last month we ironed out a lot of the plot for the novels, and spent a good amount of time working on the stakes. This month has been almost entirely devoted to characters.

I have created and developed the main protagonist and main villains (there are two). However, upon attempting to flesh out a supporting cast, I realized the plot for the first book had somehow gotten skipped back in February when I was detailing things. Thus, I had to go back and do that.

That's where I am now. There are a few lingering unknowns, but otherwise the plots for all books are detailed. Once those remaining issues are nailed down, I'll be able to get back to characters. I'm looking forward to trying out some new methods for creating supporting casts.

Moving forward, creating the cast shouldn't take too long. Likely another month. At that point, the actual development should be finished, and I can start detailing the outline (the equivalent of writing the first draft). I estimate that will take 1-2 months, with the final writing taking another 2-4. Based on that, I would estimate I could be looking to publish by the end of this year at the latest. All assuming my current rate of progress holds, of course. Which brings me to...

The Future
As I said, this month has been a bit busy. I have completed my dental training, and the last half of March has been occupied with attempting to secure a job (something which I was led to believe would be pretty quick, but is turning out to have many hiccups). I was hoping to have a job nailed down by the end of this month, but it's looking like it could be well into April before that happens. Time will tell.

Thus, while my writing schedule continues at the pace it has been, I still don't know how a job will effect it. I'm hoping it will keep my mind fresh, rather than drain all my time.

For now however, things are continuing to progress at the same slow and steady rate. Next month's update should answer a lot of questions about how much time I'll have to write, and just how long the detailing of the outline will take. So keep an eye out for that.

Until then, keep reading.
