Cross Country Season
Posted October 12th, 2009 at 05:37 PM by arp12
I'll put the results of our XC meets here. I had previously been posting in a thread in the Hangout, but I thought a blog might be a better place for it.
I'd run regularly all summer and in past summers, but this was my first time on the school XC team (I'm in 8th grade).
(I actually found out later that the girls lost.)
(I actually still don't know my time. Maybe they'll tell us tomorrow.)
And our most recent meet was Thursday. They had a pretty complicated course that was 2.1 miles. I felt really worn out so I just tried to keep up the whole race, then I sprinted the last .1 mile. That got me 5th, almost catching 4th place. I was 4th out of the team. My time was 13:56, which is I think the fastest I've gone. My pacing could have been better though; it's hard for me to judge with my energy level and differing distances.
Our best runner is out for the season with a stress fracture in his foot. Now that makes me our 2nd best runner. We're a little over halfway through the season, so I guess I'll make a second blog post when it's over.

Wasn't really sure which thread to put this in...
Today my school's XC team had the first meet. It was an away meet, and their course was 1.8 miles. For boys our team went 1, 2, 3, 4, me being 4th with a time of 13:25. At the final straght I sprinted ahead of the other school's top runner. Basically, we crushed them. We also won for the girls, though it was closer. I'm looking forwrd to the next meet in a week.
(SuperEsenwein finished either 18th or 28th)

Home meet vs. the team we share with. We also invited another team to come. 2 miles. 13:21(really happy about this- that's over 40 seconds improvement). 11th overall for boys(though I think I got 10th- the person deciding was from the other town), 3rd best of our team. It was pretty close, though we might've lost. This verifies that I run better when it's cold.

Nice times! Im a freshmen running xc, and my PRs are 14:45 for a 2.25 mile and 21:25 for a 5k. Does your school ever run 5ks?

Unfortunately we don't run 5ks. I'm actually better at longer distances.

same. Speed is not my strength, unless its the last 150 meters.

My school's got a pretty decent cross country team. I hate running, or even just moving quickly, so I'm not on it of course but still...

Well today I came in 13th at a home meet. I would've done much better, but I slammed into a pole at the beginning. So I had to make up 30 seconds while running injured.

Glad to see a blog about XC. I was able to partcipate in high school, and be an alternate for the state team my freshman year (we run 5K's in Wisconsin). Our team ended up winning the state meet by 1 point! I loved cross country for the great camaraderie and fun, and my PR was 15:58. Best wishes!
