What's in an Order Marker? (D1, D2, and D3 up)

One thing I've noticed when playing with some Uniques (such as the KMA) without Order Markers is that they become way too good. Those initiative switches are crucial in bringing them down.

Ugh, don't bring up the KMA and order marker management.

I was 3-1 in my last 5-round tournament. My last opponent was an 8-year old who brought zelrig, KMA, and cyprien. I managed to take out cyprien and zelrig quickly. But the KMA marched all over the field and took out 1 airborne elite, 3 of my KMA's, and 11 10th regiment for the win. They kept getting initiative switches, which let them back up when I got too close and engage and kill my KMA in a nice rush move.

This was an 8-year-old (Maybe 9, somewhere around there) and it is safe to say that he can out-skill me easily.

Maybe you just suck?

Kidding... ;)

I do appreciate Order Markers because I can see the strategic value it opens and it keeps both myself and my opponents on edge, waitng to see which Units will make their move next. My friends know this, though, and fear my prowess with Order Markers. Sadly, this has resulted in their refusal to use them as they want to use whatever Units they see fit to use that turn. This often ends in me using imaginary Order Markers (with the benefit of the "X" Order Marker gone) and me still crushing them with ease.

*sigh* If only they could read this valuable thread... and stop being sissies who are afriad to fight me at my own game! :frustrated:

Pardon my rant, but some people simply cannot use Order Markers. Unfortunately, everyone I play falls into this category.

I'm in a similar but less extreme situation and it really is annoying. Also each round is one turn each and we regularly play 5+ players on two player maps with no teams ever.

~Neo, thinking about yelling about which rules we're using 'scape

A couple possibly trivial things that I noticed, but that I believe would improve this article's quality (which, might I add, I use every single time I open Battleplan ;) ):

  • In your first list of example units (in the "Bread and Butter" section), you list Red Skull as a Core Hero. Yet, you don't have him down in the official list. I would suggest either removing him from the examples if you aren't going to go into Marvelscape, or be consistant and rank the other Marvel figures too.
  • You do not have the order of the various unit types in your explanations the same as below in the definitive list.
    (In the top section, it's:
    Spoiler Alert!
. In the bottom section, it's:
    Spoiler Alert!
. This may just be my OCD, but I think it would be clearer if you listed the unit types in the same order you introduced them.
  • In several of the classifications, you do not give a full list of all the examples of each type (which I will not list for brevity). This makes sense, as it's just a few examples of some of the units to give people a picture of what falls into that category. However, in the lists below, there are several instances where you do not have some of the units that you still listed up in the examples:
    Spoiler Alert!
I believe that it would be beneficial if either both the example lists and organized definitive lists were identical; or at the very least, if the the example lists were cleaned up to only show maybe up to 5 of the most common examples.
  • In the example list for Niche units, you list Tul-Bak-Ra twice.
  • Extremely picky card misspellings based on the cards:
    Spoiler Alert!
  • You do not have any classification for Gurei-Oni.
  • Although I know it's not unusual to have a unit be able to function in more than one role for an army, I just thought I'd let you know which ones you listed in more than one category, just in case you meant for them to be in only one:
    Spoiler Alert!

Just thought I'd let you know. ;)

...They kept getting initiative switches...

I hate it when my opponent gets a whole bunch of initiative switches and I don't get any.
yeahiknowrite? The initiative glyph makes it even worse. It's so broken!
Well, it's actually impossible for your opponent to keep getting intitiative switches without you getting one:

IE, if you win initiative, and your opponent gets an initiative switch, it goes:

121212212121

Then, in order for them to get 2 turns in a row, they need to have the last turn in the round, meaning that you would need to get initiative

121212212121121212212121

*You are 1, opponent is 2

EDIT: O, Dok, its IKR BTW... lol at U 4 that mistake
Spoiler Alert!

EDIT 2: I know it was a joke...

Well, it was Dadscaper's kid, so hopefully that explains it.

What would you say Elite Onyx Vipers are? I'm thinking on using them in an army with Venoc Vipers mainly to grab glyphs, so they're playing a defending role in my army but according to this post what you say they were?

I'd probably put them in

Sharks
These units appear at first to be identical in use to Bread and Butter units. They have lots of power and/or range, and they usually aren’t a waste of an order marker. However, the main difference between them and BB units is that you have to keep putting order markers on them: they have to keep moving or they die. They’re usually one or more of the following: unique, low defense, or expensive point-wise. They have an uncanny knack for drawing attention: once you activate them, you’ve gotta keep activating them and see how much havoc they can wreak.

Am I the only one that noticed you put Tul-Bak-Ra in twice?!

Examples: Kee-Mo-Shi, Theracus, Major X-17, Sudema, Agent Carr, Dünd, Deadeye Dan, Dumutef Guard, Obsidian Guards, Dzu Teh, Erevan Sunshadow, Tul-Bak-Ra, Deathstalkers, Shades of Bleakewoode, Gorillinators, Marro Drudge, Moriko, Kumiko, Tul-Bak-Ra, Otonashi, Brandis Skyhunter, Sharwin Wildborn, Air Elemental, Drow Chainfighter, Wyrmlings, Iron Golem
Niche units that pseudo-bond: Morsbane, Emiroon, Runa

Have these ever been done by points? If not it should be considered becuase when looking for filler units it's hard to find some. Though the Power Rankings help some.

Good thing I voted yes... excellent article Jexik, I re-read this every 4-6 months, along with some others to remain "good"... I think it helps anyway.

I do kind of disagree with the Ogre Warhulk's status of niche. I think he fits in more as a Menacer, especially with Deathchasers.

I'm really going to get my use out of this. Going back to school tommorrow. I'm going to print each of these out and whenever I have time during school pull out these sheets and start throwing armies together. Then test them against my friend. It'll really help.
