What is VirtualScape?

Could someone tell me what is VirtualScape? what does it do? why would I want it? etc etc

It allows you to build maps 'virtually', and enables you to share the build instructions for the maps you create. Most of the maps you see here, that are not photographs, were created with VirtualScape.

Maybee 50 pages of posts seem intimidating. It does to me. I am semi interested myself on what is Virtualscape and I don't have several hours to wade through 50 pages of posts to find out what it is and how to get it.
