What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

This weekend I played Wrath of Ashardalon, Elder Sign (7 players!) and Azul.

Edit: Also Carcassonne.

I have now done 6 Solitaires of The Last Kingdom over the last week: two 5 Players, one 4 Player, one 3 Player, and two 2 Players. Lots of fun. Should have some live opponents next weekend. On BGG you can see my threads on Strategy, FAQ, and many other topics.

After 7 solitaires at all possible player counts, finally played my first game of my brand new The Last Kingdom as a 4 Player with live opponents. We had a great time! Its a medium complexity game that plays very fast, but has quite a bit to it. The very asymmetrical Leaders and Heroes make it a challenging environment, as do the cards and market options. Its definitely controlled Chaos, which nicely reflects both the history plus the book and TV series. This makes it a very succesful IP design. All our scores were very close!

Looking forward to another game, possibly next week.

Not my favorite space game but it was fun. I loved it when the dice gods smiled on me and I got to use the number 8 to good effect.

I got in another game of Scarface 1920 today, 3 players, went back to the official rules on refreshing the associate deck. It was a close one for all players. Tried out the Enforcers expansion for the first time. I was the only one who gained an Enforcer, I was happy with how it worked. I blame the Great Chicago Fire for preventing me from a win. It burned down everyone's control markers and it was right before I reorganized, so I had no where to sell.

Our second game of The Last Kingdom was an exciting 3 Player, using different Leaders and Heroes from the first session last week. And although I figured to come in third, the final scoring showed that I had won! See my many posts about this new design on BGG.

This month we'll be playing three games of Heroscape instead of only one. All will feature playtests of some of our own new minis.

Today: Thunderstone Quest, Thunder Road Vendetta, Welcome To the Moon, Marvel Remix and Dragonquest (which I won!).

Love this one. I have the Darksworn co-op expansion that I haven't read the rules for. Should break that out soon to try it.

This weekend I got to play Death May Die and Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective. Good stuff.

I've played a lot of games this year. I haven't kept track of them all, but here are some from the top of my head. I've played many more, but these are ones I can recall.

The Game
Pickomino (many times)
Skyjo (several times)
Cascadia
Cacao
Foundations of Rome
Dune Imperium
Las Vegas
Cards Against Humanity
7 Wonders Architects
Project L
It's a Wonderful World
Splendor (many times)
Azul (many times)
Coloretto (many times)
Century: Golem Edition (many times)
Kingdomino
The Crew
Suburbia
Flashpoint Fire Rescue (several times)
Uno (very many times)

Also played miniatures games:

Elder Scrolls Call to Arms (several times)
Fallout Wasteland Warfare (several times)
The Drowned Earth (a few times)
Batman:Gotham City Chronicles (hybrid miniatures and board game.)
Star Wars Legion

Also played some RPGs:

I ran campaign of the Fallout 2d20 RPG for my twin daughters this summer while they've been home from Purdue. Actually going to wrap it up tonight since they are going back to college on Friday. I was really surprised how much my daughters really got into this and how they played their characters based on their background and their specific faction/race. They loved the video game, so they really know how to get into the rpg.

I'm a player in a Call of Cthulu campaign. Played a one-shot a month ago. Then did a session zero a few weeks ago, where we created our characters for the upcoming campaign. Then last Wednesday we played our first session of the campaign which was awesome. We have great players, who really get into it and act it out. The campaign should go 6-8 sessions.

My son and I dusted off the Transformers TCG cards last night and I ran Stunticons against his Constructicons. One of my top 5 all time games. Sooooooooo gooooood! Hasbro cancelled the game during Covid just as it was picking up a lot of steam, but came to a halt for obvious reasons.

I can dream they'll reboot at some point.

 Battlelore (First Edition) with Taeblewalker. We each won a game by one point!

Playtested a Sherman Davies custom Heroscape dragon in three games.

Over the past two and a half weeks:

Return to Dark Tower
Elder Sign x2
7 Wonders Duel
Paper Dungeons x2
Dungeon Scroll
Tales of the Arabian Nights x2
Arkham Horror 2e
Alhambra
Furnace
Dead Before Daylight
Dungeons, Dice and Danger
Prophecy
Thunder Road
Hues Cues
Battle of Raphia (online on Vassal)

The Last Kingdom (2-5 Players) 5 Player. This followed earlier games with live opponents of 3 and 4 Players. And these followed 7 solitaires I did at all possible player counts for 2-5 Players.

These solitaire games (there is no solo mode) included playing all 10 very asymmetric Leaders, in both their Leader and Hero versions each, and all 6 Heroes (who cannot perform as Leaders). This is only one of 15 factors which make each game different, and replayability very high.

Its rare these days that I can get 5 Players around our table here at my place, so I was glad this worked out.

We did three games of Heroscape in August, to playtest minis by Kolakoski and Sherman Davies. This was the heaviest August in terms of gaming in general as well as Scape, that I remember in a long gaming career!

Next Saturday we'll be playing my own custom Heroscape scenario Switcheroo. For details see my signature thread. This will be a game where players steal some of the cards of other players! It is based loosely on the alliance shifting that is prominent in The Last Kingdom. The scenario is on Post #1700 if you'd like to try it out.

There are many other interesting resources on this longtime thread as well, plus descriptions and photos of our monthly games, which we've been running for the last 16 years; broken only by the Pandemic for a while! Each game features a customs scenario by a veteran Scaper.

It also includes my Age of Annihilation project, which we've used to integrate Anitar's and my AOA cards and other elements of the failed Hasbro offering into our regular games after a series of "playtests." So we are happy that Renegade Games will revive AOA next year!

The New York City Gang of Four are Chas, Kolakoski, Sherman Davies, Taeblewalker, and now Thrasher Darkrai.
