Requirements and Process
Our Process:

Anyone can propose a map for review. The judges will then vote on whether or not to review the map. If a map is nominated by a judge, their endorsement is assumed but not counted.

If a map is to be reviewed, judges will play on the map and write reports. After at least 4 reports are completed, the judges will vote on whether or not to induct the map into the Warzones of Valhalla.

If a map passes, the map will be inducted into the Warzones of Valhalla, and will go into the display thread.

At any time in the process:
3 "No" votes will prevent a map from being reviewed, and 4 "No" votes will prevent a map from being inducted.
4 "Yes" votes will proceed a map to the review phase, and 5 "Yes" votes will proceed a map into the Warzones of Valhalla Display Thread.

Requirements:
If you wish to propose a map for the Warzones of Valhalla, it must follow these requirements:

-The map must be either 3 player, 4 player, or team (2 teams of 2 players).

-The map's requirements must not exceed 2 ROTV + 4 expansions
  • 1 SOTM may replace 1 ROTV
  • 2 BFTU may only replace 1 ROTV
  • 1 FOTA counts as 2 expansions
  • 1 ROTV or 1 SOTM or 1 BFTU may be used as 2 expansions
  • MARVEL follows the same rules as BFTU
  • There may be no more than 3 master sets on any map
-The map's start zones must be 24 hexes per person (unless it's a team map, in that case the start zones can be anywhere from 12-24 hexes per person, not per team).

-If the map includes any Treasure glyphs, you must state what the Treasure glyph trap is (standard die roll, or something else).

-The maps should be built for these point costs:
  • 3 way FFA: 400-600 per player
  • 4 way FFA: 350-600 per player
  • 2v2: 250-500 per player
-When submitting a map, please try to note which areas of gameplay the map excels at.

Hold on! We need to wait for at least 4 judges (this includes ourselves). I was going to nominate my own Canyon Flares, Ch1can0's Tr3s, and Darkmage7a's Cross Trails anyways. Let's do one map at a time, Starting with Contamination. If you wouldn't mind posting a download link and requirements for Contamination, I'd be happy to start with that. We'll hold off on Overrun until later.

EDIT: I've added maps pending review and maps being reviewed to the first post. Active means we're currently voting on it, and pending means we aren't voting on it yet.

I'd like to nominate Warlord Alpha's "Contamination" and his "Overrun" when we get enough judges

Re: Warzones of Valhalla Discussion Thread JUDGES WANTED!

Just 1 more judge 'till we're good to go! I'd say 10 judges at maximum, but we'll start reviewing at 4.

Re: Warzones of Valhalla Discussion Thread JUDGES WANTED!

Funny, I was just planning on making my first-ever multiplayer map; if it comes out the way I want it I'll post it here.

I'm not sure we really need a BoV-style judging process for multiplayer maps. But if we do, it would be good to have some of the more experienced multiplayer map makers involved in the judging process. It's not the protocol for nominations and judging that makes the BoV so highly-regarded. It's the experience and reputation of the judges themselves.

Re: Warzones of Valhalla Discussion Thread JUDGES WANTED!

I think might work out real well though I think we need just a few changes.

As for judging: Like regular BoV each map may only get up to 1 no vote and still pass in each process. I don't think we need to be that strict as we are less experienced in the BoV life and these maps are unlikely to be used in many tournaments. So if there are going to be only 4 judges then I think you should only need 50% of the judges to say yes. If we are going to have 6 judges maybe we should put it up to at least 4 yes votes.

Also for judging: (to the judges) We must obviously be completely fair judging each map. Maps will be judged by fairness, fun playability, and how balanced it is when fighting ranged vs melee. I would suggest taking notes on things that are good/bad about each map and evaluate carefully if each map deserves to be called the best of best multi-maps.

Set Limits: 3 master sets are a bit much. If someone were to use 3 ROTV we would have HUGE maps. I think it should look more like this.

Max 2 ROTV + 4 expansions
1 SOTM may replace 1 ROTV
2 BFTU may replace 1 ROTV
1 CASTLE counts as 2 expansions
1 ROTV or 1 SOTM or 1 BFTU may be used as 2 expansions

This is based sort of on the original BoV limits but we might see changes as we begin to play on some of the maps.

For Judgment Results: Like I said before a map should need either 2 or 4 yes votes to be inducted into WoV. This way there are no ties and no need for a role of a die or something.

Page formatting: Look at the BoV thread to see what I think the first page should look like when listing the maps in review and stuff.

All this I think will improve on the effectiveness of the program.

10 is a ton dude. stop at 6 like BoV.

I do agree but I don't honestly know who is. For the moment I think we can start here with our silly little inexperienced selves and if other people come along that ARE good multi-map makers and if they want to be judges we could have a change of staff.

I am making changes regarding your other post. Thanks.

About this, I think that as we go along, we will become more experienced with multiplayer maps ourselves. Don't doubt us, noone starts out experienced.

EDIT: I don't want to copy BoV, I think the formatting is fine. I'll getl inks and further detail once we get started.

Re: Warzones of Valhalla Discussion Thread JUDGES WANTED!

This is a very cool idea. I almost always make maps for 2v2 or 1v1v1 in mind, so this appeals to me even more so! I'd love to be involved in this project ScapeMage, PM sent!

Re: Warzones of Valhalla Discussion Thread JUDGES WANTED!

Dredd Stev is on the panel! Let's get started. I'll find a link to Contamination aswell as the other maps.

Judges, you may post first thoughts and a vote whether or not to review Contamination.

Of course there is still 2 judge spots left if anyone wants one.

Re: Warzones of Valhalla Discussion Thread JUDGES WANTED!

I've actually followed Warlord Alpha's maps for some time now, so I'm pleased we are looking at some of his work for our first map.

Contamination

First impression of the map is very positive! I love the look and symmetry of the "warzone" (we can use that term to represent the map right?). The symmetry is very important for a FFA (3-man or otherwise) and I think this map lends itself perfectly for a hard fought 1v1v1.

I'm a little concerned that the towers are so close to the startzones though (I'm concerned abut a devastating Z-bomb or worst yet an AE drop on the first turn, getting all three towers would be a HUGE advantage) and even with a powerful glyph in the center I'm not sure that anybody would bother trying to get to the middle with those areas of height so close by... Along those same lines if players aren't very careful they will find themselves battling one another for position in the towers and could easily leave one player alone long enough to set up a very hard to beat pod in one of the other tower sections. Once somebody is entrenched up there there's no way to get height on them.

These concerns are just from a visual review of the map though, And even now I can think of some fun combinations of figures to not only help counter some one trying to set up a tower pod, but also to make a strong little pod of my own...

I definitely vote YES to review this map, I think some of my concerns for it might actually turn out to be pluses once the game starts!

Re: Warzones of Valhalla Discussion Thread JUDGES WANTED!

Contamination
To me this says "Competitive" with gusto. I love how the map is really set up to encourage players to get into the battle. With the 3 sniper towers, the map has ranged potential, and with the vulnerable area in the middle (balanced with the suggested use of a Thorian glyph) there is bound to be action instead of hiding. I vote YES to review Contamination.

Contamination by Warlord Alpha

This map looks a little on the range friendly side for me. This map makes the glyph almost pointless with three sniping points surrounding it. If for some reason you lost control of a tower, you'd be out of luck and simply try to withstand the destruction of range fire. There is also very little melee can do on this map, since even if they did take over a tower, it wouldn't do anything, unless they had range waiting. Since this map pretty much requires range, I vote NO to reviewContamination.

Just for the record, I recommend Thorian for the glyph. Sniping no more ;)

Anyways, thanks for the nomination and kind words guys. Just so you guys know, every single figure in the game can reach the tops of the towers. It just takes a little longer if you are double spaced.

I was wondering if the brothers Q could get up there, good to know you don't HAVE to take Saylind to get them up there... Even with Thorian I'm not sure how non-flying melee will find a home on this map... But I think its worth some play testing.

I specifically designed it so that even the Q brothers could reach the tops of the towers. Also, as for non-flying melee, make sure to make good use of those ladders, in addition to the kind of "land staircase"

Re: Warzones of Valhalla Discussion Thread JUDGES WANTED!

Contamination

A three player death trap. A very good symmetrical map that can give both melee and ranged figures and edge. With the glyph of Thorian in the center it can make teams give up on the towers. But when the glyph of Thorian loss for the team it's doomsday for that team. Because of the battle for the glyph that mean this is going to be a war zone. I say YES to review.

Re: Warzones of Valhalla Discussion Thread JUDGES WANTED!

JUst waiting on GeneralRolando now...

Re: Warzones of Valhalla Discussion Thread JUDGES WANTED!

As mentioned, there's one more opening for a judge.

Also, bbecause only 1 vote is pending, we'll move on. I'm not going to praise Warlord Alpha (not that I hol anything against him) by voting on another one of his maps right now, so let's vote on Cross Trails by Darkmage7a, which is now active.

Cross Trails
I currently have this map set up in my basement. I originally set it up for 2 players, but then realized that with split start zones, Cross Trails makes a great team map! The road allows figures to get around the field easy enough, but it isn't flat, producing a challenge of movement, even on road. There aren't any clear cut vulnerable areas, and it looks pretty balanced to me. I vote YES to review Cross Trails.

Re: Warzones of Valhalla Discussion Thread JUDGES WANTED!

Wo this went up quick. So is Contamination by Warlord Alpha up for a vote to see if we should review/playtest it, or is it beyond that point and all the YES votes have already playtested it? I would be a judge, but I don't get a chance to play with 3+ people that often.

Also, correct my if I ma wrong, but since ROTV can count as two expansions, then someone could create a map with 4 master sets? That is way too much.

Re: Warzones of Valhalla Discussion Thread JUDGES WANTED!

Contamination: No to review.I have downloaded this map myself awhile ago. It proves far too range friendly even if the glyph is Thorian. A melee army will spend all it's resource trying to capture the glyph to supposedly save themselves from the impending doom of shooty figures. Even after Thorian saves them from many ranged units, it will not help against a figure like the Q brothers. Thorian only works against normal attacks. When a ranged unit gets on the tower they have immediate control over two sections of the map. On top af all that the towers act as unbelievable dragon perches and AE areas. There is no unit non-flying that can reach the towers easily and there is only one ladder. Because all dragons have special attacks as well the Thorian is no help at all.

Cross roads: I am a little concerned with all the single hex spaces every where and the trees look to be placed kind of haphazardly. They look to become more of a nuisance than an effective LOS blocker. Though the roads provide lots of access to many areas of the map and would prove an interesting battle if nothing else. Could use some immediate editing but I vote Yes to review.

Also I think we should state what size armies for each type of battlefield.

I don't know if this works well but how about:
1v1v1 map: 400-600
4 way FFA: 350-600
2v2: 300-500

Also to clarify for the ROTV expansions replacement. You may have a max of 3 master sets on any map.

Re: Warzones of Valhalla Discussion Thread JUDGES WANTED!

I'm very interested in this thread. One question, how many BftU sets can be used? I'm reading it as 6 (2 for each ms =4, & 2 for expansions), but not sure. I've been working on a 4 BftU multiplayer map that is coming together. Just wondering.
