Ultimate Battlefield Key 2.0

I wanted to update the Official Maps & Scenarios compilation to include a one page Battlefield Key, but did not find one suitable. So I made one after hours of work using Fireworks CS3 & CS5 (I have Photoshop, but I was used to Fireworks interface). I exported as flattened PNG and attached it to the Official Maps & Scenarios Download or in gallery.

Please let me know what you think and let me know if I made any mistakes or need to add anything. It should now be complete with all glyphs through D3, however I arbitrarily decided glyph abbreviations for wave D1, D2 & D3. Voice your views on these abbreviations on the glyph abbreviations thread..

Re: Ultimate Battlefield Key

Just musing aloud, are there any official scenarios yet that include ladders, and if so how are they represented on the official maps? The castle walls legend above doesnt seem to cover them.

Thanks for all your hard work!

Re: Ultimate Battlefield Key

Check the scenarios link I put at the top. Of course the Fortress of The Archkyrie Rulebook has a couple of scenarios, but there is also Aaryglynn Battlefield, and Outpost of the Malodorr Swamp. AS far as ones with D&D Master set and rungs, not yet officially but check the Custom Maps & Scenarios forum.

Awesome key, truly top notch work!

It does look like the ladder is missing as noted by the previous poster as are the trees, bushes, and jungle trees.

I did have a question about the second set of tables, it's not entirely clear to me what is being represented on the right table in the shadow column, what is the first cell 10, 11, 12? And the third cell 15?

Are these the RttFF trees maybe?

Re: Ultimate Battlefield Key

The heading over the "trees" says "shadow"

Otherwise, it looks pretty good.

Re: Ultimate Battlefield Key

Thanks for all the comments and proofrading.
  • I will have to fix the trees title (can you tell I just copied & pasted some of the tables).
  • One thing I did forget is the jungle trees and bushed, so thanks odbo255.
  • I also noted I had the Marro Hive pic as a base - I need to use the swamp base pic there, and move the Marro Hive pic to the "other" section.
  • I did not notice that the ladders where not on the legend I copied from the FotA section, and I was too sleepy last night to notice that is what Strack9 was trying to say. There is another legend from the rulebook that has the ladder rungs, so I will copy and paste that here too.
  • I still also need to add Wave 1 and D1 (and marvel) glyphs too.
I guess I will have to cut down on the whitespace to fit it all in as well. I should update by tomorrow sometime.

Thanks for all your hard work!

The ladder key is on page 5 of the rulebook. Also, I am having a problem downloading, it's telling me to update my links.

Excellent work!

Re: Ultimate Battlefield Key

Good work. I noticed that you are missing the D1 and Wave one Glyphs, plus the label over the trees says Shadows.

Re: Ultimate Battlefield Key

Updated - Added Jungle, Marro base, ladders, fixed title, cleaned up images. I will add to Official Maps & Scenarios PDF later.

Re: Ultimate Battlefield Key

This may be nitpicking, but in the liquids table, if you have it ful size in the browers, the 2 6-hex bases are blurry.

Re: Ultimate Battlefield Key

The best keeps getting better.

I think the layout may be improved just a little bit if the "Other" and glyph tables were swapped.

Topnotch work!

Re: Ultimate Battlefield Key

I will cleaned up some of the images a little better. I think one problem is I exported it as 256-color, which has weird borders, so next time I will use full 24-bit. I think I will recreate the glyph table from scratch and just type the names of all glyphs, create a table for Fortress objects and get rid of screenshot, plus rearrange things to look better. I also noticed a typo in that I changed the TREES title but not color ctr. I think by sometime next week I will have an update.

Thanks for all the comments.

Re: Ultimate Battlefield Key

Good stuffs, this is a very useful thing to keep in the 'Heroscape tub', just in case I get the build wrong when looking at the tiny screen on my iphone.

One small detail - 'ROCK OUTCROP' is spelled wrong in the obstacles table heading.

Re: Ultimate Battlefield Key 1.2

Alright, I Changed a LOT. Cleaned up images, moved tables around, added Marvel, W1, and D1 glyphs. Note I never got confirmation on D1 glyph abbreviations - so let me know if they are different than what I arbitrarily assigned.

Also, I had some space left over in the lower right corner, so just threw some images in - let me know if you have a better idea. As always, correct and spelling or other errors. I will readd to All Official Maps & Scenarios and clean that by this weekend.

Enjoy!

Truly impressive. Keep up the good work!

Re: Ultimate Battlefield Key 1.2

Thanks everybody.

I think I will make the glyphs larger as they seem small and hard to read when printed out - I will manually recreate the glyphs, but does anyone have any idea what font they are in along with glyph tiles? I have Helvetica Nueve and followed the kerning suggestions in the GreyOwl font guidelines, but I can't find an exact match.

Another thing I though of tweaking is getting rid of the "Center Border" title and replacing with a title or description. Some of these titles sound contrived, so help me out and let me know if you concur or have alternatives to these titles:
  • Land Terrain
    Height: 1
  • Liquid Terrain (or is Fluid better?)
    Height: 0 (1/2 physical height)
  • Natural Obstacles
    Height: Noted
  • Battlements
  • Constructed Obstacles
Height: Noted [I will add the height in small letters under each obstacle name]
.

Re: Ultimate Battlefield Key 1.2

The glyph abbreviations are correct as printed from the rulebook. Some of the TGs and the regular glyphs carry the same abbreviations.

I have a personal request on the scenario book. Some pages I can copy and paste from, others I can't. It's not a big deal, but with my project, copy and paste is easir than typing. (I'm a slow typist...lol) Just wondering if you could fix that if it's an easy fix. If not, don't worry about it. Thanks for your efforts on the key and the book.

Increasing the size on the glyphs is a great idea. I also like the re-organization idea with titling.

I'd simplify the titles further:

Terrain ("land")
Zero-height Terrain (includes shadow)
Obstacles (includes natural, battlements, and constructed)

Parenthesis are included above for clarification, they aren't meant to be included in the key.

Re: Ultimate Battlefield Key 1.2

There is no Holy Symbol of Peter. There is, however, a Holy Symbol of Pelor.

Aside from this small mistake, it looks pretty good!

Re: Ultimate Battlefield Key 1.2

Thanks for all your input everyone. I updated it by recreating all glyphs bigger and made section titles. As for D1 glyphs, I made a thread asking for input on what the official abbreviations should be, but for nor what I have will stay.

I have a personal request on the scenario book. Some pages I can copy and paste from, others I can't.

This has to do with the source. If they are official printouts from Hasbro/Wotc/Hersocapers, then they printed from Word which makes the text included in the PDF. If they were scanned from printed rulebooks, they do not have text. I will update the rulebook with this key and more scenarios soon.

This is awesome! Great work.
For the titles I would go with:
Stackable Terrain & Zero Height Terrain

Re: Ultimate Battlefield Key 1.4

Updated to 1.4 with D2 glyphs. I just made up some abbreviations - if you disagree - voice your opinion at the Glyph Abbreviations thread. Used to update Official Maps & Scenarios with Dungeon Adventure 2: River of Blood.
