Character Bio - The Imperial stormtroopers were the evolution of the clone troopers of the Grand Army of the Republic. By the end of the Clone Wars in 19 BBY, the Galactic Republic was reorganized into the first Galactic Empire. As a result, the Grand Army was reformed into the Stormtrooper Corps, thus renaming all clone troopers as "stormtroopers." Under the Empire, stormtroopers operated alongside Imperial Army and Navy units, while some placed on Naval ships were given the title "marines." Although stormtroopers served under Stormtrooper Command, a military agency that was independent from Imperial High Command, all stormtroopers ultimately answered to Emperor Palpatine with unconditional loyalty and subservience.

-Power Rankings-
A - These generic soldiers of the Empire have thrown a wrench into Squadscape. And with 4 attacks of 1 (or 2 with height), they can eventually break through against low-defense Heroes.

These guys really mess with the metagame.

Here is the army I'll be trying:

Darth Vader 220
Storm Troopers x2 380
Imperial Officer 465
Greedo 495

Basically, send in the Stormtrooper until they die out, or are no longer usable. Send in Vader to clean up while calling back the destroyed Stormtroopers! Vader should be able to handle a missed order marker or two.

Looks like I'm gonna have to order myself an Imperial Officer and Greedo. Nice army!

If you go up to 550, you can fit:
Darth Vader 220
2x Stormtroopers 460
2x Imp Officers 550

Send up the Stormtroopers with one Officer for range bonus support while the other hangs back to call up troops. Keep Darth Vader around the back to protect your "spawn point" until cleanup time. Or, if your opponent brings out Obi-Wan, then you send Vader in.

These guys look like a good buy as far as points go, especially in a mixed HoGG/Classic game. For 20 less than the Omnicron, you get +1 Figure, -1 Range and a whole lot more synergy.

Their movie-inspired inability to take down heroes does keep them in check, though.

This is a good point that no one had brought up before. The value of these guys goes up once you add in the Imp Officer and Tarkin (and I'm sure there's a little more help on the way ;)).

This quite sadly will always be the argument against the STs passing the Omnicrons as the better unit. If anything, Classic 'Scape is dominated mostly by Squads so the STs have that working for them.

And Marcus helps them a lot too. With Marcus and an Imperial Officer, they get +1 move, +1 range and +1 attack when adjacent, that's quite a bit.

Plus, if you use the Imperial Officer, you can bring back squads.

Yeah 2-3 is probably the sweet spot for 400-600pt games.

But there is just something cool, fun, and Star Wars movie-esque about playing 6 Squads of Stormtroopers against a handful of Heroes...

Spoiler Alert!

Ah, man... I can't give you rep for being the kind of guy that says "screw it! I want a movie reenactment!"

:)
That's exactly how they were designed. Tough against other squads but unable to hit the broad side of a hero.

Down the road, I would expect we'll get into some of the specialized Stormtrooper squads who will have a better chance against heroes.

I am loving this. I played a game with these guys and Vader, and Vader got whiffed very early in the game. I was taking on heroes the whole game and lasted with one stormtrooper against a hero on a tower and almost won. I even killed a couple heroes with them, it was a good day for the empire.

Right! They also have more support figures, each of which lends itself to a different way of playing. Ozzel pumps up their offensive power, Veers uses them as escorts while using heavier hitters (AT-ST), Imperial Officer turns them into a never-ending swarm.

@zeekthefreak, they only get their double counting hit on squad figures, not heroes. They are great for killing squads, but need another support option for taking on heroes.
