Character Bio - R2-D2, pronounced Artoo-Detoo and often referred to as Artoo, was an R2-series astromech droid manufactured by Industrial Automaton prior to 32 BBY. Resourceful and spunky, the droid developed an adventurous personality during his many decades of operation. Inside of his cylindrical frame were many arms, sensors, and other tools that could be extended to fulfill various needs, such as slicing computers, extinguishing fires, projecting holograms, repairing starships, and flying. Along with his counterpart, the protocol droid C-3PO, R2-D2 constantly found himself directly involved in pivotal moments of galactic history. His bravery, coupled with his many gadgets, played large roles in saving the galaxy time and time again.

-Power Rankings-
B- - While his shock can come in handy against Droids, his real usefulness is in benefiting others via Resourcefulness. He also works best when paired with C-3PO, being able to repair the Droid and keep him moving without any OMs on either of them.

ASTROMECH INTERNAL SYSTEMS
After moving and instead of attacking, R2-D2 may do one of the following:
- Shock a figure. To shock, choose an opponent's adjacent, small or medium figure and roll the 20-sided die. Add 3 to your roll if the chosen figure is a Droid. If you roll a 15 or higher, move the chosen figure 1 space, if possible. A figure moved by Astromech Internal Systems never takes any leaving engagement attacks. If the chosen figure is a Droid, it receives one wound.
- Repair a figure. To repair, choose an adjacent Droid and roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 15 or higher, remove up to two wound markers from the chosen figure's Army Card.

RESOURCEFUL
All friendly figures within 6 clear sight spaces of R2-D2 may add 1 to any 20-sided die roll. When an opponent targets a friendly figure within 6 clear sight spaces of R2-D2 with a special power that requires the roll of the 20-sided die, you may subtract 1 from that roll.

SECRET MISSION
At the end of each round, if there are no revealed Order Markers on this card, you may move R2-D2 up to 4 spaces.

Surprised this version doesn't have some evasive movement nor flying. Perhaps for R2-D2 2.0? ;)

Still a neat figure, with his powers. :)

The evasive movement is kinda represented in his bonding with C-3PO. As to the flying, we just had to much R2-godness to give you already that we had to draw the line somewhere :(.

Agreed. If he could fly, why did they need a hoist to lift him into Luke's X-wing?

R2-D2 is a no-brainer for the Tusken Raiders and Q9. He looks like he could be a useful unit in many, many armies.

He can only go so far off the ground. More like hovering. So basically all he could do it fly across gaps/water.

Ever play Lego Star Wars... that's what you use him for right? :D

You actually see R2 with lots of little gadgets and gizmos in the prequels that he does not have in the original trilogy. This is because he was a flashy new model and owned by powerful players of the day so his maintenance and upkeep was top of the line. In the original trilogy he is 20+ years out of date and now part of the scrappy rebel alliance so replacement parts are a little harder to come by. Instead of replacing a gadget when it gets worn out with the same thing, it gets replaced by whatever they have on hand that might fit in the same space and be useful. I wouldn't mind seeing a prequel version of R2 at some point.

Well, I was thinking that you guys could use the Flying symbol like in C3G.

But I do agree that this version really doesn't need to fly, but the next version should. He's fresher. ;)

Very nice design.

It looks like there is an unnecessary blank line after SECRET MISSION.

I wish I hadn't missed SirG's post 9 months ago. Corrected cards have been posted to the OP. The updated PDFs should be available this evening.

I just finished playing 4 games of HoSSScape in a row and used R2 quite a bit. He's very, very useful. In a couple of rounds, he was the superintendent of the gunners, boosting the Atgar Cannon and the E-Web Blaster to keep them from overheating. In another game, he engaged an enemy to protect his friends while 3PO grabbed a glyph.

R2 is a fun little droid. I once played a game where he was my last figure on top of a castle top, I actually shocked 2 samurai off of a ledge and killed them with fall damage before he was over ran. Also my last playtest of Hoss figures, I surrounded R2 with tusken raiders when I got a 9 figure move and attack with the Clan ability and he lived through 6 attacks that turn and 4 more the next turn. It was hilarious.

Synergy update, Artoo-Detoo edition.
