Watched Man of Steel today with the kids:
I've never been a fan of Superman really. I get it that he has moral dilemmas that balance out his crazy power set. But that's never been my thing, as I've always gravitated to more of the street level heroes, or ones with less power levels.
But to the movie:

Spoiler Alert!
Just like the last Batman movie where unrealistically every stupid cop in Gotham runs underground, there's no way in he!! that all Clark's classmates are going to be hanging around outside of the closet while his teacher and then mother are trying to get him out. Are you kidding me?! That would not be allowed. But I guess they did it for even more effect to show of Clark's mutant realization moments of freakdom while growing up.
No way in heck Lois is scaling the glacier to follow some strange guy into a ice tunnel that wasn't there until he melted it. I get that she's "adventurous" and all, but that was pretty stupid. Not to mention the fact that she would traveling around like someone important, and getting all kinds of access throughout was kind of silly to me.
I agree that the Superman/Lois lovefest was annoying.
Zod and Jor-El's fight scene was lame to me. Goofy fake useless armor, not my thing.
Not big on Supes breaking Zod's neck. He could have found another way, though the writers kind of painted him in a corner as Zod was getting stronger and stronger and was vastly superior to Supes in fighting ability from training. So at that point, Supes couldn't likely overcome Zod. Though the way it was going, there wasn't much else he could do.
Not overly big on Supes being likened to Jesus in the church.
Okay, those were some gripes. But there was some good of course too.
Interesting styling and artsy in a sense early on. I liked that.
I see what people were saying about John Kent not being so inspiring and all, but I disagree in a sense. Unknowing of Jor-El's intentions to have Supes grow up of free will to make his own decisions, John Kent did the same. He told him that he would have to decide the person he wanted to be (good/evil). He didn't say that he should have let those kids die on the bus, he was like "maybe, I don't know" or something. Again, that was allowing Supes to define himself, despite the risk. By not letting Supes save him in the tornado, John also showed the value of sacrifice to protect the ones you love.
I did like the fight scenes and while it did go on for awhile, when dealing with dudes with powers like Supes and his fellow Kryptonians, it's going to take awhile to take them out unless someone's sporting some Kryptonite. Got to love flying trains. I like how the bad chick fought the best. She was the coolest of all of them, Supes included.
I liked it, didn't love it. I liked the artsy style of it. I liked the way Clark grew to define who he was going to be throughout the complications of being who he was. I liked the action elements. Thing I didn't like were mostly nitpicky things and not enough to keep me from enjoying it.
