The Book of Xenithrax the Vineweaver

I don't see this unit getting used in tournaments anytime soon. It is just too bulky. The number of tournament maps where it can even move anywhere is going to be very limited. Any map with any decent LOS blockers is going to severely limit this figure's movement.

@vegietarian18's dad used Xenithrax at ScapeCon in at least one event. It's definitely big. I don't think it will ever be A-tier because of the difficulty of placing it on some maps.

On the flip side, it does create real denial issues for the opponent, so it can cut both ways in some matchups.

Kept an eye on Xen through ScapeCon, I believe 3HH was the only event Xenithrax made an appearance. Dragons are pretty rare in Delta events and so Vines didn't show there, and Xen would never show up in regular pricing. 3HH was about the best event for it since you can manipulate the matchups to get something favorable (eg. weak to specials). Crazy that Yari and Pelloth made it into as many armies as Xenithrax all week.

I think her vines should have been able to be placed under figures, and also remain permanent. She'd go up a little in value I'd think. Gonna be a house rule here, would love to see it tested in tourneys

I've only used her twice now, but I found the vines to be really useful in directing traffic, particular when you can force a figure to step onto the glyph if they're wanting to engage, or go around it and not get an attack. It helped a lot against the bears.

She's still a touch too expensive, though. At least that 8 life will keep her around a few turns once the wounds start getting handed out.

Wait, the vines can’t be placed under someone? Ouch. Would have made a difference in the game I played last night. Xen engaged my Raelin in melee. Next turn, dropped vines on her dropped her defense to 1….. Ouch.

Correct. They must be placed on an empty space and get removed at end of a round when a figure is on it. So relatively easy for opponent to just step on it with a Squaddie for Round 3, then boom, by by vine Glyph next round :(

Did I miss something? Have the effects of the Vine Glyph been officially announced? Or are folks just using house rules? The OP just says TBD.

They're in the rulebook. They were also in the AH rulebook back in the Haslab days, so we've known how they work for a while. I'm not sure why they're not in the OP.

I just downloaded the AoA Rulebook, and searched for it without finding it. Can you tell me what page?

Actually it’s in the scenario book that also has the bios of the hero’s.

Basically, anything huge steps on the vine, vine goes away.

Anything else loses 1 attack and 2 defense. And if they try to move off, they take a one die hit.

Copying a question brought up on Reddit for Xenithrax. Are all the figures besides just the first figure "chosen" for ERUPTING EARTH SPECIAL ATTACK also "targeted"? If so then Kita the Springrunner's Apparition make it so it cannot be targeted if three spaces away and powers that trigger when targeted like Nakita Agents' Smoke Powder trigger as well. The special attack does not specify if later figure are targeted but the wording "The first target of Erupting Earth Special Attack..." implies all figures that are chosen for the attack are also targeted and therefore powers that triggers when targeted should be triggered when chosen for the special attack.

Sharwin Wildborn has the same wording "The first target... choose..." so ruling for Xenithrax should match that.

Can we have a ruling and something added to FAQ?

Edit: OK I asked in Heroscapers discord and was referred to OEAO's HeroScape Rulings and Guidance: A Comprehensive Treatise which has this:

26.2 Other Special Attacks that Only Target the Initial Chosen Figure
Blue Wyrmling’s Fledgling Lightning Breath
Sharwin Wildborn’s Arcane Bolt
Xenithrax’s Erupting Earth

Importantly, these figures do not need LoS to the affected figures, may affect figures with which they are not engaged, and may even choose themselves to be affected where relevant.
So go by that where chosen does not mean targeted. Note that this is the "legacy rules team" rulings and for tournaments go by Heroscape All Time Format FAQ Errata.pdf but where it does not specify (such as Xenithrax) then the Comprehensive Treatise is as good as official until renegade update's their document.

I think I'm missing something here. When Xenithrax's glyphs are removed from the battlefield... where do they go? Does she get them back to use again, or is she limited to just 3 per game?

Like other 'resources' (Morsbane's Negation markers, AE's grenades, the new pirates' black powder) once it is off the card, it stays off the card.

I played a Xenithrax army on Saturday. The sculpt is so challenging that map makers would do well to bear her in mind, and avoid having isolated bits of wall and other things that can be easily tipped over.

Generally, minis (friendly and otherwise) could get up to her as needed. Just took some work.

This was my experience as well. A few places that were difficult to move her however she could generally be placed into the fray with other figures, and most figures like the Bears and Irene were able to often place around at least 2 of her tails so that she could be surrounded.

I played her in a list with only 1 Greenscales and put most of the points into Syvarris and Aubrien Archers, having Xeni place vines to slow down attempts to pin down Syv and the Archers.

Thanks. It's been so long since I've played a serious game that I tend to forget little details like that.
