Re: The Book of Vibe (Paco Ramon) - Breaking In

NAME = VIBE
SECRET IDENTITY = PACO RAMON

SPECIES = METAHUMAN
UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = CHAMPION
PERSONALITY = CHILL
SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5

LIFE = 4
MOVE = 5
RANGE = 4
ATTACK = 3
DEFENSE = 3
POINTS = 180

JUSTICE: DETROIT STYLE
If Vibe is destroyed by an enemy figure, you may place his figure on that enemy figure's Army Card. If you do, for the remainder of the game any Champion, Telepath, or Warrior Hero you control rolls an additional die when attacking a figure from that Army Card.

VIBROSHOCK KNOCKBACK
When Vibe attacks using his normal attack, he may attack one additional time. After an opponent rolls defense dice against Vibe's normal attack, if the defending figure is within 4 clear sight spaces of Vibe, you may Knockback the defending figure by placing it on an empty space up to X spaces from its current position. X is equal to the number of skulls rolled in the attack. A figure moved by this special power never takes any leaving engagement attacks and cannot be placed closer to Vibe than its original placement. A figure moved by this special power can receive any falling damage that may apply.

RHYTHMIC DEFENSE
If you roll at least one shield for Vibe against a normal attack, you may roll one combat die for each die rolled. If you roll the same number of shields as were rolled for defense, Vibe takes no damage and may immediately move up to two spaces. When Vibe is moved this way, he will not take any leaving engagement attacks.

Biggest thing to decide on here is the mini. Do we just want to rock the New 52 mini or go with a more retro look that will require a repaint/mod?

Re: The Book of Vibe (Paco Ramon) - Breaking In

I guess I am doing the art here :p

Re: The Book of Vibe (Paco Ramon) - Breaking In

Sounds good! :)

Re: The Book of Vibe (Paco Ramon) - Breaking In

Nice, didn't expect to see this one. I'm cool with whatever mini, I'll be using the N52 one to proxy both Vibes.

Vibroshock Knockback and Rhythmic Defense are great. Spirit of Detroit seems a bit strong to me, and I feel like opponents would just try and avoid killing Vibe because of it. Maybe have his figure be placed on a card of a Champion/Telepath/Warrior you control and he grants only them the boost?

Edit: I like Nobody's idea too.

As I said before, Spirit of Detroit's strong, and is going to make him a go-to for the Justice League.

Re: The Book of Vibe (Paco Ramon) - Breaking In

Coulson’s boost at the start of the round after he is destroyed always feels meaningful without feeling overly powerful. :2cents:

Re: The Book of Vibe (Paco Ramon) - Breaking In

Is there an actual reason for Spirit of Detroit though? That feels like something you'd put on someone who's death actually was like, inspirational or moving. His death was really just like the kick off of an Ivo plot line, rather than any kind of rally the troops moments.

Yeah, that's a good call. :up: Totally on board with making it a one round boost.

I'm assuming the Justice League isn't as heartless as you. :p

They spent far more time after his death talking about the fact that Ivo was back or that it was bad that they showed up the streets in costume because laws. I hardly feel the mere fact that a character died is justification for a power like that, especially when like the only two examples we have of it so far are Coulson and Balder.

Re: The Book of Vibe (Paco Ramon) - Breaking In

I could see ditching it, but I do think if we want to keep it that it should be closer in line with Coulson's power.

I definitely want to make the Coulson change.

I guess let me know if the power's just a non-starter, though, LV, and if it's off the table, I'll proceed accordingly.

Re: The Book of Vibe (Paco Ramon) - Breaking In

I mean I'm definitely against it, as I personally don't think there's thematic justification for it. However, if people generally like it I can shut up and get over it.

Re: The Book of Vibe (Paco Ramon) - Breaking In

I guess the downside for me is what LV is saying, with the upside being it'll make him want to play in an appropriately brash manner.

Maybe a compromise would be a name change? Current name is coming off very "inspirational death." I could see a name swap sell it better as an "Oh my god, you killed Kenny! You bastards!" type thing.

(Oddly enough, the second Kenny reference I've made in the past 24 hours.)

Re: The Book of Vibe (Paco Ramon) - Breaking In

TBH that power's the main thing that actually makes me want to play this guy right now - it seems like fun, and I like the power name and the vibe (pun not intended, I promise) it gives. Never heard of him, so can't speak to justification.

Re: The Book of Vibe (Paco Ramon) - Breaking In

Any suggestions for a new name that would give it an appropriate theme?

Leaning towards just scrapping it. Without the JL Detroit tie-in, I’m not super interested in the design mechanically and it’s already going to be difficult on the mini front. Happy to just move on to greener pastures.

Re: The Book of Vibe (Paco Ramon) - Breaking In

Honestly I kinda like the name as the spirit of Justice League Detroit being one of failure and only mattering after you’re dead makes a lot of sense meta context wise :lol:

Re: The Book of Vibe (Paco Ramon) - Breaking In

Death in Detroit?
Motor City Memorial?
Fallen Comrade?

Re: The Book of Vibe (Paco Ramon) - Breaking In

I'd be less against if Vibe went on the killer's card and the bonus was solely against that figure. Vibe was killed when he was just out walking on the street after the league was disbanded and the android was specifically sent to kill him. Then the "team" (because you know, disbanded), spun their wheels for like two or three issues. J'onn was like, fixated on the whole Ivo thing for like 2 issues after he died. Global boost I don't buy, but a specific targeted thing would be more acceptable.

Re: The Book of Vibe (Paco Ramon) - Breaking In

Sounds almost more like a Comedian-esque thing, thematically. Let me try to think of something.
I like Death in Detroit as a power name.

Would you prefer an enduring bonus against the killer to a single round global effect? Or would you want a single round bonus against the killer?

Re: The Book of Vibe (Paco Ramon) - Breaking In

I was thinking something appropriately "90's gritty" like this if it works for LV:

DETROIT STYLE JUSTICE
If Vibe is destroyed by an enemy figure, you may place his figure on that enemy figure's Army Card. If you do, for the remainder of the game any Champion, Telepath, or Warrior Hero you control adds one extra die to its normal attack against that enemy figure.

I could live with that. Name doesn't quite fit the actual story context (no I dont have a better alternative), but I know the Justice League Detroit reference is the more important thing for you you there, and probably better since that's part of the point of the power itself.
